, should be adapted to our arms & warfare; and the manual exercise, military maneuvres, and tactics generally, should be the frequent exercises of the students, in their hours of recreation.
I find this to be a very interesting part of the report as it talks of making sure that the students understand military tactics. It is interesting to look back and see what a state of turmoil the USA was in at the time by the fact they they had to train the students. Also the writer calls this an hour of recreation. In terms of today such work would seem just to be work, not leisure time.

Military Architecture, includes Fortification, another branch of that art
I like this part of the report because it gives a window into what the past was like in Virginia and America as a whole. At the time this report was written America was a new nation facing internal threats as well as threats from abroad. This is why I find it interesting to why there is a part of the curriculum that would be dedicated to how to build military fortresses. This kind of curriculum also displays how today is so different from times back then. Such a Degree is no longer necessary or at least popular today. The world we live in now is simply different from how it was back then and this kind of degree being offered displays that.

that these pavilions should be united by a range of Dormitories, sufficient each for the accommodation of two students only
This passage I find particularly interesting for a few main reasons. One of the things that struck me about this was that the students and the professors would be living side by side. I admire the forward thinking nature of this because it would really encourage communication both in and out of the classroom. Another part of this that I find interesting is that The professors will have to live with the people they are teaching. This would even further encourage them to be involved with the school community. I also find it interesting how the report does not state the reasons to have these professors houses so intertwined with the grounds.

A Professor is proposed for antient Languages, the Latin, Greek and Hebrew, particularly, but these Languages being the foundation common to all the Sciences
I enjoy this part of the report because it displays how UVA really is an institution that is tied to the ideas of the past. It also shows how thinking was different then compared to now. First it ties the learning and teaching of the time to the ancient classics. Up until about this time most of the ideas in the world came from this time period a long time ago. It is around the time this document was made that learning started to shift to focus on the newer discoveries rather than relying on the old philosophers.

Military Architecture, includes Fortification, another branch of that art
I love this section of the report because it highlights the differences between then and today. Before, There was a clear need for people to be taught how to protect the country. At this point the nation was still new and there was a need for forts to protect the country from invasion. While it still may be important for people to know how to build forts today, it is not nearly as critical as it was for them in that time period.
