I didnt really understand the ending of this short story, and wonder why it ended the way it did?

Diction was used tremendously in this short story. The author decribed the brain by using actual terms to show the importance of what is happening in the story.

This shows that Anders continues to be a very sarcastic charaacter and doesnt tend to take things seriously even in a life or death situation.

Saying "drowning eyes" is very good word choice and helps the reader see the story better as a image. It shows how nervous she is in the story and feels as if theyre may not be a way out.

I feel as if this is forshadowing, and that Anders may go to heaven by the end of the short story.

Whos is the author referring to when she says "his departing smile"? Could it be the father of her child that she wacthes play in the park? Maybe she says "departing smile" becuase he is not always around to help her out with her child.

I feel that the tone changes throughout the poem. I feel as if this is one of the first shifting points in the poem. I feel that at the beginning of the poem the tone was calm, however I feel that it shifts into a more broken and sad tone.

The parent wants their daughter to grow up and go through new experiences, however they are hoping that they will come back for guidance and support.

The parent seems to have very mixed feelings and emotions. I feel as id the mother is happy yet so nervous at the same time that their daughter is growing up.
