Try to put your paper straight down from the start and place it flush with the adjustable paper guide as you roll it in with the platen knob. If it's still crooked, use the paper release lever to remove tension on the platen and rollers and then re-align it using either the line indicator, the paper bail, or the paper table. Then roll the paper back to where you need it to be to start writing.
