Sadly, in recent years, radical activists have sought to undermine Christopher Columbus’s legacy. These extremists seek to replace discussion of his vast contributions with talk of failings, his discoveries with atrocities, and his achievements with transgressions. Rather than learn from our history, this radical ideology and its adherents seek to revise it, deprive it of any splendor, and mark it as inherently sinister.

Interesting. So being racialized is seen as a deficit, and you can overcome (perhaps partially) the deficit by achieving other indicators of prestige or success (education, experience, maybe).

I also had this experience. While I was interested in teaching and language, I was just out of undergrad with little experience when I took a job teaching in a hagwan in Korea. My US passport and whiteness 100% got me the job.
My students were children, and I recall them often commenting on my blue eyes when a new term started. They thought I was a Disney princess.
I didn't think about it much back then, other than noticing the interaction, and I think it speaks to the fetishization (?) or centering of whiteness as some kind of ideal, seemingly perpetuated through media like Disney movies.

No, whiteness, like all racial categories, is a construct of power (Kendi, 2019), power often gained through ill-gotten means, and those classified as white are the gatekeepers of membership to a club that maintains its identity through the hoarding of property (Harris, 1993)
It seems like without empathy, as a white person, you could go your whole life without realizing this.

White ELT professionals are incentivized to maintain the racial status quo and many exhibit fierce resistance when efforts are made to discuss white supremacy in English teaching
I think white practitioners may do this without realizing why or how it's happening. Having this discussion seems like a good first step towards realizing the biases we have and the things we're doing to perpetuate racial inequities within ELT.
