What happens if you need more than one temporary table? I suppose they get numbered?

    1. Another set of studies showed that priming people with achievement values increased their success at completing a puzzle but made them less helpful to the experimenter. On the flip side, priming people with a benevolence value decreased their success at the puzzle and increased their helpfulness (Maio, Pakizeh, Cheung, & Rees, 2009).

Doesn't this suggest the experiments were affecting something other than values? If core values are less malleable than beliefs and attitudes then how could the subjects have had their values changed so easily?

    1. Tags for topics. You use tags to group notes under a topic. Tags for objects. You use tags to group notes around an object, real or conceptual.
    1. At this stage it is only natural to stress the importance of tags. You are using them frequently and they serve as important entrances into your archive.
    2. A sign of not dealing with structural layers are project folders, and folders in general. If you can’t cope with potentially infinite complexity you have to compensate. One way of compensation is lowering the demands on the system. If a system encapsulates single projects or topics, chances are that it can’t cope with complexity. This is okay if you want to just work on one project. But if you want to use a system as an aid to writing and as a thinking tool you should opt for a system that is powerful enough for a lifetime of thoughts. So, watch out for folders and projects. They are the means for dealing with encapsulating and limiting complexity. In addition, they hinder the most productive way of knowledge production: the interdisciplinary part.

    6. Sensory memory input is overwhelming and fortunately, it has a very short half-life. You can only store less than a second of it at a time before it vanishes.
    7. Short-term memory is also fleeting, lasting somewhere on the order of 10 seconds up to 30 seconds.
    8. What I’ve just described is the Atkinson-Shiffrin memory model or Multi-Store Model of memory.
    9. The WMM redefines the short-term memory portion of the Multi-Store Model and breaks it into a series of components.

    11. we use working memory in conjunction with other higher cognitive functions as tools.
    12. The central executive is a multi-faceted system that “oversees” control of working memory. It enables us to focus our attention on the current “thing” of interest while suppressing other irrelevant “things.”

    20. The buffer has a limited capacity and serves as a mechanism for storing a coherent narrative that integrates the inputs from the phonological loop, visuospatial sketchpad, and perhaps other sources. It adds chronological timestamps of sorts to create an almost movie-like record.
