the word power is describing knowledge and the evils of truths it brings to ones' self. People that don't have knowledge show they are pessimistic and believe people are evil as they grow smarter.

The jug represent the sorrow that man feels and by bringing it up all the time in a public place to others is him showing other just how sad he is. And the word jug is repeated.
