The informal norm I learned is taking off my shoes before entering a home. In Myanmar, this is a common folkway and I learned it from my family and watching other people. We usually take our shoes off before entering a home, someone's home or some religious places. If someone walks inside with shoes on, people may feel uncomfortable or think it is disrespectful. They may also ask the person to take their shoes off, which is an informal negative sanction.
