    1. People learn informal norms by observation, imitation, and general socialization.

The informal norm I learned is taking off my shoes before entering a home. In Myanmar, this is a common folkway and I learned it from my family and watching other people. We usually take our shoes off before entering a home, someone's home or some religious places. If someone walks inside with shoes on, people may feel uncomfortable or think it is disrespectful. They may also ask the person to take their shoes off, which is an informal negative sanction.

    2. You may believe that a line should be formed to enter the subway car or that other passengers should not stand so close to you. Those beliefs are intangible because they do not have physical properties and can be touched.

One norm I learned is waiting in line and waiting for my turn. I think this is a folkway because it is an expected everyday behavior. I learned this by watching other people and from school and family. If someone cuts in front of the line, I may feel uncomfortable or think it is rude. Other people may also complain or ask them to go to the back of the line. This is an informal negative sanction.

    3. Almost every human behavior, from shopping to marriage, is learned.

One norm in my life is speaking respectfully to older people and teachers. I think this is a folkway, but it can also be a more because respect for elders is important in our culture. I learned this mainly from my family and school. In Myanmar, we learn about manners, traditions, and respect from a young age. If someone speaks disrespectfully to an older person, I would feel uncomfortable, and others might criticize their behavior. I think this is an informal negative sanction.
