    1. One thing teachers can do to help students develop interest in a field, for instance, is to tell stories of the conflicts within that field. Present history as a series of undisputed facts and your class is likely to fall asleep pretty quickly; present some of the conflicts over what constitutes meaningful history and your class is likely to feel much more involved.

      I'll have to dig up the reference, but I've seen some advice to write things with known outcomes as if they were a mystery or detective story. The general recipe was: Present the idea as a question and then slowly peel back the layers to come up with the solution in an organic fashion as a means to holding attention.
