Until last week, I found this completely mystifying – I had no idea what import was doing and I didn’t understand how to use libraries in that way.
The build tools are irrelevant (or rather, a red herring).
JS has
importstatements. The build tools are (or at least should be) approximating what you get without the build tools interposing themselves into the development process, but doing it in a way that reinforces The Iron Law of Bureaucracy.
