She shuttles back and forth between concise description of theoretical developments in intersectional feminist thought, a history of hacker, geek, and maker feminists, and discussion of the recent establishment of intersectional feminist hackerspaces like Mz* Baltazar’s Laboratory in Vienna, Liberating Ourselves Locally in Oakland, Mothership Hackermoms in Berkley, Seattle Attic, Flux in Portland, Double Union in San Francisco, and Hacker Gals in Michigan.
Las investigaciones también visibilizan otras formas de hacer historia y otros historicismos en el desarrollo de estos espacios. Una pregunta, ¿Qué había antes de lo hacker? ¿Podemos rastrear estos espacios antes de las tecnologías digitales? ¿Qué encontraríamos? Otro elemento para pensar, estas no son historias de individuos ni genios aislados. Son historias de grupos, cooperativas, movimientos sociales, etc.

There has also been a recent move toward the intentional diversification of hacker and makerspaces, specifically along lines of gender and, to a lesser degree, race. Examples of this trend include Liberating Ourselves Locally, Double Union, and a wave of new, explicitly intersectional feminist spaces dedicated to hacking, making, crafting, and design. In this chapter, I argue that in addition to the diversification of hacklab participants, design justice requires a broader cultural shift in how such sites are organized. In particular, design justice implies an intentional relinkage of design sites to social movement network
El principio de la diversificación también puede aplicarse a los diseños de las propias investigaciones. Reproducción de la diversidad racial, epistémica, de género, de clase, etc. Una de las opciones son las epistemologías feministas y sus reflexiones teórico prácticas sobre los métodos y metodologías de investigación. Es necesario una transformación cultural en estos espacios pero también en la universidad y en las prácticas de investigación. Rutas: ¿qué podemos aprender de las redes de los movimientos sociales?

These wiki books were designed to interrogate and break down barriers between the humanities and the sciences by repurposing previously published science research and clustering it around a specific topic (e.g., energy, air, pharmacology, or bioethics) accompanied by an editorial introduction. This experiment in connecting and reusing various open access research materials—including articles, books, texts, data, images, video, and sound—and in exploring collective writing and open editing was designed to challenge “the physical and conceptual limitations” of the codex book, but it also questioned the various institutions and material practices that accompany it (e.g., the liberal humanist author, copyright, its aesthetics of bookishness). Yet more than that, it was an experiment in reimagining the book itself as living and collaborative, as an iterative and processual form of cocreation.
