    1. Now, there’s no secret that our governments disagree on many of these issues.  I’ve had frank conversations with President Castro.  For many years, he has pointed out the flaws in the American system -- economic inequality; the death penalty; racial discrimination; wars abroad.  That’s just a sample.  He has a much longer list.

      Here, President Obama used the rhetorical strategy of example.       President Obama used two different rhetorical strategies in these couple sentences. First, he used the term "terrorist attack" which is an example of loaded diction. He does this in order to get the audience's attention and sway them in a way. He then follows up this use of loaded diction with pathos. By saying "thoughts and prayers of the American people," he is appealing to the emotions of the audience.
