    1. As a consequence, the traditional emphasis on alphabetical literacy (letter sounds in words in sentences in texts in literatures) would need to be supplemented in a pedagogy of Multiliteracies by learning how to read and write multimodal texts which integrated the other modes with language.

meaning is communicated through multimedia instead of text...this needs to be in the curriculum as well

    1. Design gives us the room to rethink the semiotic activity with which we engage in our classrooms. Rhetoric and composition has been theorizing multimodality for over a half of century (see Jason Palmeri’s work on the history of multimodality in composition studies).

The concept of designers = wonderful concept.

    2. Further, as the faculty who developed the Revisions course explained in our curricular materials, “an underlying strategy of the class is NOT to separate oral, written and visual communication, but rather to help students come to an understanding” that purposeful selection of mode and medium “always involves making rhetorical decisions” and requires “thoughtful and aware modification for particular audiences and circumstances”. In other words, our job was not to teach the discrete conventions of each mode, but to help students consider which modes were most appropriate in a given circumstance, how they might be integrated, and how they might be leveraged to achieve the desired impact on a target audience.

      This is great.

    1. If I have a number of ways of expressing and shaping my message, then the questions that confront me are: which mode is best, most apt, for the content / meaning I wish to communicate? Which mode most appeals to the audience whom I intend to address? Which mode most corresponds to my own interest at this point in shaping the message for communication? Which medium is preferred by my audience? Or by me? How am I positioning myself if I choose this medium or this mode rather than those others

    1. Rather than suggesting that we replace one understanding of literacy over another, we should simply expand on what we could (and should) include in a composition course or project.

I like this mention of your home alongside a pic of yourself in Chicago (for those who recognize the bean :) ). Inserting a caption or referencing this juxtaposition might clarify the selection for outside audiences. They seem to convey your love for cities and your movement beyond Austin.

    1. It is surrounded by farms and windmills!

I love the pics and the captions help us understand their connection to the messages above and how they take use even closer to you. I am wondering about their placement on the page. Is there a way to break up the text or move beyond the centered alignment for the whole page? It feels awkward.
