Continued economic growth in the faceof steady-state physical resources wouldrequire all growth to be effectively in thenon-physical sector, possibly assisted bymodest efficiency improvements in howwe use physical resources.
for - decoupling - economic growth from - physical resources
-
it is unclear what mightprevent economic growth from continuingapace even in the context of stalled growthin the physical domain. The idea of‘decoupling’ in economics addresses exactlythis point.
for - question - decoupling economics from physical resources- degrowth?
question - decoupling economics from physical resources- degrowth? - The author seems to be talking about continuing an economy with - less and less reliance on physically intensive activities, hence significantly reducing our carbon and physical resource intensity

The concept of a knowledge vacuum refers to an organizational condition in which the pushing force of innovation and the pulling force of organizational inertia both at the structural and behavioral levels such as political pressure, pro-innovation bias, and employee frustration, interact to create a negative spiral that hampers organizational and policy learning.

The line of solution that we see is based on the possibility of decoupling between the continuityof one’s personware and one’s organic and psychological survival. If a state of affairs is somehowcreated where human individuals universally realize that their organic and psychological continuity issafeguarded unconditionally and does not depend anymore on the continuity of their symbolicallymaintained social persona—their personware, then new horizons will open for human individuals aswell as for social systems to cognitively coevolve.
!- claim : decoupling personware from biological/psychological survival will result in new possibilities.

To enhance well-being, people demand5services and not primary energy and physical resources per se. Focusing on demand for services and6the different social and political roles people play broadens the participation in climate action.
This is a key point. services can be delivered and decoupled from high net primary energy and physical resources.
While demand services are not direct sources of carbon emissions, behavior change that reduces consumption can dramatically alter the volumes of primary carbon emissions.

the latter reviews 179 papers on decoupling published since 1990 and finds “no evidence of economy-wide, national or international absolute resource decoupling, and no evidence of the kind of decoupling needed for ecological sustainability.”

As I have mentioned in previous posts, several platforms have appeared recently that could take on this role of third-party reviewer. I could imagine at least: libreapp.org, peerevaluation.org, pubpeer.com, and publons.com. Pandelis Perakakis mentioned several others as well: http://thomas.arildsen.org/2013/08/01/open-review-of-scientific-literature/comment-page-1/#comment-9.
