    1. All this hoopla seems out of character for the sedate man who likes to say of his work: ''Whatever I did, there was always someone around who was better qualified. They just didn't bother to do it.''

    1. # 21:30 @voxpelli ↩️ Better to name things for what they are rather than trying to make it into something else through deceptive names like "web 3.0". I mean, eg. the IndieWeb could also have called itself "web 3.0", I guess Mastodon could as well. There truly must be a better name? (twitter.com/_/status/1442601857105346560)

The conversation here makes me wonder about the idea of a more humanist web following onto the humanist movement in the 1400-1500s.

    1. There’s a whole lot of IndieWeb sites out there, some very unlike the others, yet all can intercommunicate. IndieWeb should have claimed the “together, not the same” slogan before Google took it for Android commercials, because that’s exactly what IndieWeb is. And it is great.

There are even more than that on this list: https://github.com/snarfed/indie-map/blob/master/crawl/2017/domains.txt, from Indie Map which is from 2017 and a whole lot more have appeared since then.

    1. It’s not the same thing as being face to face in a room together, but it’s a much closer match than a discussion forum or conventional social media where there’s just too much distance between the conversation and the text itself and, quite often, between the comments and commenters themselves.

This suggests an interesting tagline for Hypothesis: "Shortening the distance between the text and its readers."
