    1. Commuting by ebike was a game-changer for me - no more changing clothes in the office or restroom!

    1. For every mile we don't drive, our air gets a little bit cleaner. There are many ways to drive less- walking, biking, taking transit, telecommuting, carpooling, and more. Driving less can also save you money and improve your emotional and physical health. Working from home has been gaining popularity and may offer other benefits such as improved productivity.

    1. vibrating bike (and rider) is absorbing energy that reduces the bike’s speed.

The narrower tires, the more vibrations

    2. And since we now have very similar tires in widths from 26 to 54 mm, we could do controlled testing of all these sizes. We found that they all perform the same. Even on very smooth asphalt, you don’t lose anything by going to wider tires (at least up to 54 mm). And on rough roads, wider tires are definitely faster.

Wider tires performe as well as the narrower ones, but they definitely perform better on rough roads

    3. Tire width influences the feel of the bike, but not its speed. If you like the buzzy, connected-to-the-road feel of a racing bike, choose narrower tires. If you want superior cornering grip and the ability to go fast even when the roads get rough, choose wider tires.

Conclusion of a debunked mth: Wide tires are NOT slower than the narrower ones

    1. Examples of this sort of non-logical behaviour used to represent identity can be found in fiction in:

      • Dr. Seuss' The Butter Battle Book (Random House,1984) which is based on
      • the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu in Jonathan Swift's 1726 satire Gulliver's Travels, which was based on an argument over the correct end to crack an egg once soft-boiled.

It almost seems related to creating identity politics as bike-shedding because the real issues are so complex that most people can't grasp all the nuances, so it's easier to choose sides based on some completely other heuristic. Changing sides later on causes too much cognitive dissonance, so once on a path, one must stick to it.

    1. The beauty of the bicycle infrastructure network in Copenhagen is the uniform design of the infrastructure. There are, by and large, four types of infrastructure - all represented in this graphic. Based on the speed limit for cars, you select the appropriate style of infrastructure and off you go.
      • 10-30 kph (under 18 mph): no separation necessary
      • 30-50 kph (18-31 mph): painted bike lanes to the right of the parking lane
      • 50-70 kph (31-43 mph): curb-separated bike lanes to the right of the parking lane
      • 70+ kph (over 43 mph): full median-separated bike lanes
