    1. Google is expanding Gemini with a new agent system that can take a single goal and execute it across apps like Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and the web

    1. We estimate Google is the largest single owner of AI compute, holding about one quarter of global cumulative capacity as of Q4 2025.

    1. 1000x Increase in AI Demand
      • NVIDIA’s latest earnings highlight a dramatic surge in AI demand, driven by a shift from simple one-shot inference to more complex, compute-intensive reasoning tasks.
      • Reasoning models require hundreds to thousands of times more computational resources and tokens per task, significantly increasing GPU usage, especially for AI coding agents and advanced applications.
      • Major hyperscalers like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI are experiencing exponential growth in token generation, with Microsoft alone processing over 100 trillion tokens in Q1—a fivefold year-over-year increase.
      • Hyperscalers are deploying nearly 1,000 NVL72 racks (72,000 Blackwell GPUs) per week, and NVIDIA-powered “AI factories” have doubled year-over-year to nearly 100, with the average GPU count per factory also doubling.
      • To meet this unprecedented demand, more than $300 billion in capital expenditure is being invested this year in data centers (rebranded by NVIDIA as “AI factories”), signaling a new industrial revolution in AI infrastructure.

    1. I thought it was bad growing up during the “just Google it” age, but as society always manages to outdo itself, the current “just use ChatGPT” mindset is so much worse. At least with Google, there was a semblance of effort: sifting through search results, evaluating sources, and piecing together information to paraphrase for your paper that was due in the next hour. Now, the expectation is instant answers with zero context, no critical thinking, and a growing dependency on AI to do the heavy lifting. It’s not just a shortcut—it’s an exit ramp off the highway of media literacy.

    1. At Google, an AI team member said the burnout is the result of competitive pressure, shorter timelines and a lack of resources, particularly budget and headcount. Although many top tech companies have said they are redirecting resources to AI, the required headcount, especially on a rushed timeline, doesn’t always materialize. That is certainly the case at Google, the AI staffer said.

        • Mo left Google after seeing the rapid pace of AI development was going to lead to a progress trap in which
          • the risk of AI destroying human civilization is becoming real because AI will be learning from too many unhappy people whose trauma AI will learn and incorporate into its algorithms
        • Hence, human happiness becomes paramount to prevent this catastrophe from happening

    1. He said the new AI tutor platform collects “competency skills graphs” made by educators, then uses AI to generate learning activities, such as short-answer or multiple-choice questions, which students can access on an app. The platform also includes applications that can chat with students, provide coaching for reading comprehension and writing, and advise them on academic course plans based on their prior knowledge, career goals and interest

I saw an AI Tutor demo as ASU+GSV in 2021 and it was still early stage. Today, the features highlighted here are yet to be manifested in powerful ways that are worth utilizing, however, I do believe the aspirations are likely to be realized, and in ways beyond what the product managers are even hyping. (For example, I suspect AI Tutor will one day be able to provide students feedback in the voice/tone of their specific instructor.)

    1. Google’s novel response has been to compare each app to its peers, identifying those that seem to be asking for more than they should, and alerting developers when that’s the case. In its update today, Google says “we aim to help developers boost the trust of their users—we surface a message to developers when we think their app is asking for a permission that is likely unnecessary.”
