    1. studies funded by pharmaceutical companies have three or four times the probability of studies notfunded by pharmaceutical companies of showing eectiveness of an intervention

Possible source of bias in testing psychoplastogens (which are often created by Pharma Start-Ups) versus classic psychedelics (which may not have pharmaceutical support)

    2. There is a danger in departing from established guidelines: some studies have shown that physicians nd“exceptions to the rule” more often than appropriate,

      Risks of departing from EBM

    3. epistemic gap . . . between the results of clinical research andthe care of individual patients”

Can narrative help bridge this gap?

    4. “Is my patientsuciently similar to the trial subjects for the results of the trial to apply to her?” The patient might befrailer than the trial patients, and/or much older, or be of a dierent gender, or have signicantcomorbidities, or lack the requisite social support. Part of clinical expertise is having the ability to answerthis question, perhaps drawing on general pathophysiological and psychosocial knowledge as well asknowledge of the particular patient.

Narrative data can help point to additional factors that might stratify patients into relevant subgroups (not only age, gender, or severity of disease, but thematic similarities such as personal spirituality, specific lived experiences, existing social supports... etc.)

    5. This statement is a carefully crafted backtracking from the 1992 original statement of evidence-basedmedicine, which explicitly advocated “de-emphasizing” what it called “unsystematic clinical experience”(Evidence-Based Medicine Working Group 1992). Now the individual clinical expertise of the physician isrecognized, indeed respected, as an important part of the process.

One example of how EBM has become less rigid/radical. (This is important to accurately characterize what EBM actually stands for and avoid strawman arguments.)

    6. ealist synthesis uses a context-sensitive mechanistic account of the intervention tosupplement traditional evidence-based reviews

      EBM+

    7. patient variability (age, sex, severity of disease, riskfactors, comorbidities, ethnicity, socioeconomic status), treatment variability (dose, timing ofadministration, duration of therapy, other medications taken), and setting (quality of care). In order toaddress these issues, knowledge of their importance in particular cases is needed.

NBM could help reveal the the importance of these issues in particular cases (?). E.g., could reveal information which is not captured by quesitonnaires such as perceived quality of care.

    8. standardize the evaluation of randomized controlled trials,

In the case of NBM, certain methods can be used to standardize the interpretation of narrative data (e.g., shared methods of thematic analysis). This can lend a sense of standardization to a process which might otherwise be viewed as "messy" and "interpretive". Even though narrative data will be more unstructured, the analysis of it need not be (?)

    9. What happens to the process of systematic review if we allow the evidence hierarchy to be more nuanced? One consequence is that we may not be able to do a systematic review at all, because of the diculty ofdevising a nuanced and also impartial hierarchy of evidence. There is a shaky line between contextual andbiased determinations. The danger is that departure from a rigid standard “for good reasons” may open thedoor to any number of rationalized (rather than “rational”) departures from that standard. We may lose theactual and/or the perceived object-ivity of systematic review, both of which are necessary. We may also losethe perceived analytic rigor of systematic review, which contributes to its perceived objectivity

      Potential counterargument against narrative methods?

    10. the likelihood of bias isdetermined by both trial methodology and the particular study details

Narrative might help reveal sources of actual bias rather than merely suggesting the presence of potential bias (?)

    1. What responsibilities do you think social media platforms should have in what their recommendation algorithms recommend?

I think social media platforms should take the responsibility to spread some meaningful contents. I don't think they should put too much on product advertisements. They have the responsibility to raise social awareness on societal issues because they are a good medium that help to spread content.

    1. What experiences do you have of social media sites making particularly bad recommendations for you?

Instagram usually gives out recommendations on products. When I searched some products online, instagram will immediately recommend me the same products while I look through stories. It makes me feel bad because sometimes I just want to take a quick look on some products, but is not thinking about buying that. Further, it ignited my desire to buy products, which I would realize that it's a waste of money after I spent money on them.

    2. What people near you have been liking, interacting with, or hovering over (they can find your approximate location, like your city, from your internet IP address, and they may know even more precisely)

I think the recommendation algorithm based on distance is significant. I can tell that the system is examining the distance between me and other users, which makes the content we get similar to each other. I remember I read a book on how this neighborhood recommendation system works, and the advantages and disadvantages brought by that. Personally, I feel bad when me and people around me get the same recommended content because when I share the content to them, they've already seen those recommendations before, making the human interactions boring.

    1. Interest groups may also form to represent companies, corporate organizations, and governments. These groups do not have individual members but rather are offshoots of corporate or governmental entities with a compelling interest to be represented in front of one or more branches of government.

I'm curious about the safety of having interest groups represented in one or more government branches for everyone in the country. Imagine that since these interest groups have an inside source in the government who approves the passing of their product, they are able to pass laws or push laws not facilitating the backlash of an unsafe product because it was approved by the “government”.

    1. It is important to note that once the largest value in the list is part of a pair, it will continually be moved along until the pass is complete.

    2. features not available in Threads currently include DMs, language translation, the ability to edit posts and the ability to easily switch among multiple accounts.

Lots of basic (and not so basic) things missing. Makes you wonder if this is even worth it?

    3. No ability to search posts:

      That's a basic feature missing!

    4. That may give users pause about adopting Threads.

Easy to opt-in, not so easy to opt-out

    5. “the priority is the mobile apps, but we are working on” the web version.

Considering its relationship to Instagram, an app with a similarly mobile focused design philosophy, this isn't too surprising.

    6. Threads could be set to see only followed accounts, said it’s “on the list” for future enhancements.

      Well that's a relief!

    7. Out of the gate, this seemed to be the biggest issue users called out.

Despite the fast rise in popularity, Threads might not be able to provide the same satisfactory experience provided by Twitter.

    4. Inside the ‘very predatory’ world of illegal betting that lured Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter

Title shows a focus on the dangers of sports gambling. Also a metaphor calling gambling predatory.

    1. Meta has been inviting major celebrities to join an early version of the app. Already, big names like Malala Yousafzai, Shakira, and Gordon Ramsay have used it, Meta confirmed.

Those are some very big names.

    2. For Threads to get that same effect, it will need those culture starters who can make compelling short, 500-character posts.

An interesting argument to make about what it needs to succeed. Most others pointed to keeping engagement. Here it points to needing the right people.

    3. underlying trust in its parent company, which has faced controversy about how it handles user data since the Cambridge Analytica scandal of 2018.

Meta has lost the trust of a lot of its users. But the same could be said about Twitter. Who here would be able to come out on top?

    4. Threads posts be visible on other apps like Mastodon or Wordpress, or vice versa, and have users comment on posts across the apps. And if you decided to stop using Threads altogether, you would hypothetically be able to port all your content over into a new app.

I saw another article talking about this, but not going as in depth on the subject. I wonder why some sites choose to omit this planned feature? Is it just something they see as not important?

    5. Many users have complained about Twitter’s “For You” feed showing them too much content from random users they don’t want to see, and that they miss the old-school default-chronological feed on Twitter.

Possible issues for Meta to address with their app?

    6. which you can now pay for

      wait what

    7. This is one of Threads’ biggest advantages over other Twitter replacement apps: Over 2 billion people already have a built-in social network on Instagram, so unlike with, say, Mastodon, you don’t have to completely recreate your follower base from scratch.

Easy integration into a new service means a higher willingness to convert over.

    8. sn’t ready yet, according to Meta

      oh...

    9. a very different approach than Twitter, which has been limiting free API access to third-party developers.

Paints Threads as a more welcoming app to third party app developers than Twitter is. Allows people more options that forcing them into a single one.

    10. Twitter gives you the option to toggle between an algorithmic and chronological-based feed of only people you follow

Sounds like an option that could be seen as an advantage Twitter has over Threads.

    11. with some minor differences

It's not 100% identical... but it's pretty damn similar.

    1. Meta announced last fall that Instagram had surpassed 2 billion monthly active users

A sizeable userbase that can easily be transferred over to the new app.

    2. The launch of Threads comes as Musk’s Twitter has faced technical struggles of late.

More mentions of Twitter's inability to keep up a standard following Musk's acquisition

    3. That said, it’s not clear how many Instagrammers will flock to Threads,

Uncertainty in Threads ability to succeed. This one is particularly interesting, as given when this article was written, information surrounding the apps userbase wasn't concrete

    4. Right now, the app doesn’t include a direct-messaging feature.

Many write about this as a key element. It shows the importance of features like this to people.

    5. By launching Threads through Instagram, the new app has a leg up on other would-be Twitter alternatives.

Threads is ahead of the curve. It has a chance at competing that many others outright lack.

    6. its frontal attack on Twitter

Very strong language to use. Implies that these two apps are at war with each other.

    1. Sports betting has exploded in the United States in a way that I’m not sure everyone appreciates. It’s now legal in 38 states compared to just one (Nevada) in 2017. 7. Why the Shohei Ohtani story is so concerning for baseball and sports

      Attention grabbing title

    1. Times staff writers Dylan Hernández, Jack Harris and Gustavo Arellano contributed to this report

This article has a more question rising and suspecting tone then other articles that simply relayed available information.

    2. The IRS and Homeland Security are investigating the Bowyer case for the U.S. attorney’s office in L.A.

A league and federal investigation is in place.

    3. The ESPN article stated that the spokesman said the money came from Ohtani to cover Mizuhara’s gambling debts. The interpreter confirmed this account in a lengthy interview with the outlet on March 19, which was arranged by the spokesman, ESPN said. But then the spokesman and later Mizuhara disavowed that account, and it was subsequently replaced with the claim that the interpreter stole the money through wire transfers of $500,000 each, according to ESPN. Brettler’s firm issued a statement saying it had notified law enforcement of the alleged “massive theft.” It has not said which agency it notified.

The story changed from Ohtani paying off debt to being stolen from.

    4. The league did, however, announce on Friday that it was launching an investigation into Ohtani and Mizuhara.

The league is now involved in an investigation.

    5. The first suggested that there was no link, and that Ohtani had no comment in response to a Times query about the Dodger, Bowyer and the investigation, according to a representative for the ballplayer. Next came the version that Ohtani generously paid off the gambling losses Mizuhara owed to Bowyer, ESPN reported after The Times story was published. Then came the current narrative, made public March 20: Mizuhara stole the money. Ohtani said Mizuhara had invented every other rendition of events. In a meeting at their Seoul hotel, Ohtani said, Mizuhara admitted to him the theft and the deception.

The story has changed 3 times.

    6. Ohtani also said he has “never bet on anything or bet for anyone on a sporting event or asked someone to bet for me.” He also denied knowingly paying Mizuhara’s gambling debts.

Ohtani clearing his name but still the story seems to have holes.

    7. Why would any illicit bookmaker allow Mizuhara to accrue a debt in the millions?

The story being told to the public is not adding up so far.

    8. He said it would be “highly unlikely” that Ohtani didn’t have a business manager or anyone else in a similar role who could have flagged unusual movements of funds.

Again the ability for this to happen without Ohtani's knowing seems unlikely.

    9. the translator would have had to evade all the safeguards typically in place to shield a wealthy celebrity from thievery, fraud and other forms of financial exploitation, experts have told The Times. Those lines of defense would include human and digital protocols for verifying the legitimacy of large withdrawals of money from a bank, in addition to assurances that financial professionals who handle expenses, investments and taxes are performing regular reviews of significant transactions.

A question of how was this theft possible without reliazation of Ohtani's party.

    10. That’s because Ohtani’s claims — that his interpreter stole millions of dollars from him to pay a bookmaker and that the ballplayer knew nothing about it — have produced more mystery than clarity, beginning with the unanswered question of how such a large theft could go unnoticed for so long.

A new layer to the story and more questions raised.

    11. The result was a series of shifting accounts of how Ohtani’s name was raised as part of the investigation, with each version presenting him as not being involved in any wrongdoing.

A recap of the articles presented so far.

    12. The tip arrived two weeks ago, and it threatened to engulf Major League Baseball’s biggest star, Shohei Ohtani, in scandal. The name of the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger and pitcher had surfaced in a federal investigation of illegal sports gambling — millions of dollars in payments were allegedly made from his bank account to an illicit bookmaker.

    4. "Obviously, he [Ohtani] wasn't happy about it and said he would help me out to make sure I never do this again," Mizuhara said. "He decided to pay it off for me.

Ohtani's name has been cleared right away.

    5. A source said Bowyer was aware of the name on the wire transfers but chose not to ask any questions as long as payments came in; however, the source said Bowyer allowed people to believe Ohtani was a client in order to boost business.

Bets were being placed with Ohtani's money.

    7. The spokesman presented Mizuhara to ESPN for a 90-minute interview Tuesday night, during which Mizuhara laid out his account in great detail. However, as ESPN prepared to publish the story Wednesday, the spokesman disavowed Mizuhara's account and said Ohtani's lawyers would issue a statement.

      The story is already changing

      What is this?

    1. User cyber security awareness: Training users about cyber security helps protect against various attacks that target their systems. Documenting and managing assets: We need to know the types of systems and devices that we have to manage and protect properly. Updating and patching systems: Ensuring that computers, servers, and network devices are correctly updated and patched against any known vulnerability (weakness). Setting up preventative security devices: firewall and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) are critical components of preventative security. Firewalls control what network traffic can go inside and what can leave the system or network. IPS blocks any network traffic that matches present rules and attack signatures. Setting up logging and monitoring devices: Without proper logging and monitoring of the network, it won’t be possible to detect malicious activities and intrusions. If a new unauthorized device appears on our network, we should be able to know.

tasks done by defensive secuirty personnel

    2. Defensive security is somewhat the opposite of offensive security, as it is concerned with two main tasks: Preventing intrusions from occurring Detecting intrusions when they occur and responding properly

      what is defensive secuirty

    3. Offensive security focuses on one thing: breaking into systems.

      what is offensive security

    1. Finally, the pharmacist should assess the appropriateness of all remaining medications.

      fourth

    2. The second step to evaluate medication appropriateness is to determine whether the patient has a chronic condition but is not receiving an evidence-based medication shown to improve outcomes (ie, potential prescribing omissions, underuse)

      second

    3. Next, certain laboratory test results and vital signs should be examined to monitor the efficacy and toxicity of each medication.

      third

    4. The first step in assessing medication appropriateness is to compare the patient’s medical problem list with his or her drug list.

      first step

    5. Similarly, three items from the implicit MAI (lack of indication, lack of efficacy, therapeutic duplication) may also aid in detecting unnecessary drug use.49

      implicit

    1. will not initially be available

An implication that it will eventually be available there. Some articles have painted a different picture

    2. has an extensive history of trying to stamp out social media rivals, partly by copying their features.

Instagram stories comes to mind. Was a very clear imitation of the (at the time) incredibly popular Snapchat.

    3. is that Instagram wants to make it easier for Threads to operate seamlessly with other platforms

Make Threads easy and accessible to all. Have it be constant in our lives

    4. Instagram Notes, where people can share short messages on the site, and a text-focused app using Instagram’s technology.

Interesting to note. Instagram's notes feature has since been implemented into the app.

    5. began its effort to take on Twitter late last year, with dozens of engineers, product managers and designers pitching ideas on what a rival app could look like

Not too far off from when Elon Musk's Twitter purchase was finalized

    6. “not just because of the ownership, but because of product changes and decisions” that Mr. Musk and others made to how the social platform works.

Suggests this might have happened regardless of ownership.

    7. Mr. Mosseri added, especially at a tumultuous moment in the social media landscape.

A likely allusion to the current state of Twitter.

    8. As part of that effort, he said, Threads was spun out into a separate app. That way, Instagram would not be too cluttered by trying to make public conversations work inside its existing app.

Interesting. This potentially could suggest Threads as an idea that spans long before Elon Musk's Twitter purchase

    9. It does not currently support direct messaging, a feature that Twitter offers. Instagram said it may add features to Threads if new users ask for them.

Threads is lacking compared to Twitter

    10. Threads looks nearly identical to Twitter in many ways.

Pointing out the similarities between the two apps

    11. He later said that Threads achieved 10 million sign-ups within seven hours of its launch.

      That's a lot of people

    12. But Threads has a leg up, backed by Meta’s deep pockets and Instagram’s enormous user base of more than two billion monthly active users around the world.

Threads is different from the others.

    13. changed the experience of Twitter by tinkering with its algorithm and other features, and most recently imposed temporary limits

Implication of a shaky road since Musk's Twitter purchase

    14. The rollout of Threads ramps up the rivalry between Mr. Zuckerberg and Elon Musk

Mentions the existence of a preexisting rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk.

    15. with some techies referring to it as a “Twitter killer.”

      Twitter killer mention

    16. If Instagram executives get their way

Get their way? Interesting wording choice.

    1. paywall

An unfortunate side of paywalls for academic materials on google and the internet in general as that many of them have malicious practices by either saying they have information that they don't once the fee is paid, or by attempting to scam someone searching for that information. It is good to always remain cautious when processing payments online

    1. Podemos dizerque as atividades ajudam os alunos a colocarem em jogo os seus recursos,as suas estratégias e as suas competências para com isso participarem naconstrução do conhecimento.

Boa noite caros formadores e colegas! Porque considera o conhecimento prévio do estudante.

    1. there’s no way to quickly verify the accuracy of a Wikipedia article without consulting other sources on the subject.

And these sources can be other Wiki's and non-official sources sometimes. There are many great unverified sources on the internet despite their waiving credibility, most dedicated Wikis will have valid and well researched information

    2. Although Wikipedia can be a great resource for background information, not all topics have the same amount of depth or coverage.

WIkipedia is an excellent online resource for scratching at surface level concepts, but it is important to remember that despite our homogenized internet atmosphere today, there are many dedicated Wikis for many topics
