Hints for a Happy Typewriter
Bryan Kravitz, Nancy Gorrell, 1983
https://typewriterdatabase.com/1983-Hints4HappyTypewriter.index.manual
Some good, basic home care and use from 1983. Home mechanics in 2024 are probably capable of a bit more without the backstop of a typewriter mechanic.
This guide suggest the use of solvents like alcohol or trichloroethane for cleaning type slugs and internals. Note that trichloroethane manufacture and use has diminished significantly since 1996 when it was identified by the Montreal Protocol as a contributor to ozone depletion.

"Your head is the most important part of your typing." - Lenore Fenton
"Your typewriter does exactly what you make it do, but it does no more" - Lenore Fenton
This is very similar to quotes about computer programs at the end of the 20th century too.
The touch characteristics for the manual, the noiseless, and the electric are all slightly different.

Typewriters? In 2024? Are You Nuts? by Jesse M. Slater for [[Raconteur Press]]
A short, but relatively solid typewriter 101 story for someone looking for a distraction-free writing machine. Certainly not completist, but enough to get your toes wet.
Slater uses his typewriter for a first draft, then edits the second draft as he re-types it into his computer to have a digital copy for further editing and distribution.

A wide variety of typewriter manuals are available here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-manuals.html
Keep in mind that most typewriters are so similar in functionality that even an adjacent manual will help a lot if you have no experience.

Over half of Joe’s students usually dropped out before the boot camp was finished.
This is very similar to what I see in our current work force being in staffing.

Introspection (called it “internal perception”), a process by which someone examines their own conscious experience as objectively as possible, making the human mind like any other aspect of nature that a scientist observed. Digital skills would focus on which tool to use (e.g., Twitter) and how to use it (e.g., how to tweet, retweet, use TweetDeck), while digital literacy would include in-depth questions: When would you use Twitter instead of a more private forum? Why would you use it for advocacy? Who puts themselves at risk when they do so?
I teach a CAD course and I always try and bridge the gap between skill and literacy. Which is the more important? Chicken or egg?

we cannot mediate all our responsibilities to others through prices, through paying for them, makes it essential in the running of society that we have what might be called “conscience,” a feeling of responsibility for the effect of one’s actions on others.
Why economics 101 misses so much.

My daughter will be brought up to understand her true value. That’s a promise. As for all the little girls to be born around the world, the creation of these ads is an effort to show how imagination can change the conversation around their lives.
This piece connects with the authors opening by talking about her daughter again. At the beginning of her article she talks about her doctors appointment and being told that she is going to have a little girl. The author then follows up with statistics on why most would rather have a boy. I think that since she wrapped back around to her own personal experience and thoughts that it makes it resonate more with the reader. She targets the audience with an emotional connection, or pathos, gets all of her points out. Discusses how society makes girls out to the lesser gender and then comes back in with why this topic is important to her. So, I think that this is an effective strategy.

The whole of the clauses which refer to the latter are as complete as the most ardent supporters of union could desire, tempered by the lew exceptions by means of which the provinces have wished to shelter their local institutions from attack.
-
The 34th paragraph of the 29th clause of the scheme reads thus: ” The establishment of a General Court of Appeal for the Federated Provinces.” What is the object—what will be the character of the tribunal?
-
we shall always have our court of final appeal in Her Majesty’s Privy Council

Now, when we were united together, if union were attained, we would form a political nationality with which neither the national origin, nor the religion of any individual, would interfere. It was lamented by some that we had this diversity of races, and hopes were expressed that this distinctive feature would cease. The idea of unity of races was Utopian—it was impossible. Distinctions of this kind would always exist. Dissimilarity, in fact, appeared to be the order of the physical world and of the moral world, as well as in the political world. But with regard to the objection based on this fact, to the effect that a great nation could not be formed because Lower Canada was in great part French and Catholic, and Upper Canada was British and Protestant, and the Lower Provinces were mixed, it was futile and worthless in the extreme. Look, for instance, at the United Kingdom, inhabited as it was by three great races. (Hear, hear.) Had the diversity of race impeded the glory, the progress, the wealth of England? Had they not rather each contributed their share to the greatness of the Empire? Of the glories of the senate, the field, and the ocean, of the successes of trade and commerce, how much was contributed by the combined talents, energy and courage of the three races together? (Cheers.) In our own Federation we should have Catholic and Protestant, English, French, Irish and Scotch, and each by his efforts and his success would increase the prosperity and glory of the new Confederacy. (Hear, hear.) We viewed the diversity of races in British North America in this way: we were of different races, not for the purpose of warring against each other, but in order to compete and emulate for the general welfare.

HON. MR. CURRIE—The 34th sub-section of the same clause commits to the General Government ” the establishment of a general Court of Appeal for the Federated provinces.” Is that to be in lieu of the Courts of Appeal we now have ? Is it intended to do away with the present Court of Appeal and to establish a new one ? HON. MR. CAMPBELL—I do not think my honorable friend has caught the meaning of what is intended. It does not say the general Court of Appeal shall be established, but that the power to establish it shall be in the General Government. HON. MR. CURRIE—New Courts of Appeal? HON. MR. CAMPBELL—If a statute of the Parliament of the United Provinces shall be passed creating a Court of Appeal, it will state whether it is in lieu of, or in addition to, the present Courts of Appeal. I should suppose it would be in addition.

When it comes to global warming, these slaveholders outpace all but the very biggest polluters. Adding together their slave-based deforestation and other CO2-producing crimes leads to a sobering conclusion. If slavery were an American state it would have the population of California and the economic output of the District of Columbia, but it would be the world’s third-largest producer of CO2, after China and the United States.
That really puts the slavery industry into a more relatable perspective. Relatable as in we are more able to envision it.

It was proposed to ask the Imperial Government to confer upon the General Government the power of constituting such a court, not, however, with the desire to abolish the present right of appeal to England.
§.101 of the Constitution Act, 1867.
-
At present appeal lay from our courts ultimately to the Queen in Privy Council, and it was not intended to deprive the subject of recourse to this ultimate court ; but at the same time it was well, in assimilating the present systems of law, for the benefit of all the Provinces, that they should have the assembled wisdom of the Bench brought together in a general court of appeal to decide ultimate causes, which would before long doubtless supersede the necessity of going to the enormous expense of carrying appeals to England.
§.101 of the Constitution Act, 1867.
-
It was thought proper to give to the General Government the right to establish a general Court of Appeal for the federated Provinces He thought that while there was no express provision for the establishment of such a court, many who had studied the question would agree that it was desirable the General Legislature should have the power of constituting such a court, if it saw fit to do so.
§.101 of the Constitution Act, 1867.
-
each Legislature, and especially each Local Legislature—acting within the bounds prescribed by the Imperial Parliament and kept within these bounds by the Courts of Law if necessity should arise for their interference—would find in the working of the plan of Federation a check sufficient to prevent it from transcending its legitimate authority.
Preamble, §§. 91, 92 and 101 of the Constitution Act, 1867.

When we encourage students to use technology, do we remind them of the risks of placing their information online and give them choices of how much personal information to reveal? Do our students recognize the ways in which Facebook’s privacy settings continually shift without user permission, and what posting a photo today might mean for their future employment opportunities? Do students recognize the importance of password-protecting their devices and having different passwords across platforms?
because the technology is good but beware of the misuse

life has become a scramble for survival in a population divided between those with guns and those without. This chaos is the perfect breeding ground for slavery.
This is so sad. These people live in paradise and yet must fend for their lives in order to survive on their own land. And in order to survive, they must abide to slavery because they are being threatened with guns. They and their loved ones are forced into this, because they are "in the way" of production. Either they work or die.

Twitter was first marketed as a micro-blogging tool when it launched in 2006. Since then it has become a very robust social networking service, and has become an active home for discussion in academia. Leveraging the power of public, open discussion, it has also become an asset in teaching and learning. Course discussions once limited to the classroom can now constructively be expanded to interested parties across the globe. The article linked through the image below is an excellent primer for Twitter in Education.
