    1. Name the parts, Mr. Jennings!” he said loftily

Betteredge stays true to his character. Despite him disliking the idea of working with Jennings, he still delivers because his Lady told him so--a loyal and proud servant through and through.

    2. Speaking as a servant, I am deeply indebted to you. Speaking as a man, I consider you to be a person whose head is full of maggots, and I take up my testimony against your experiment as a delusion and a snare

Hahahahahahahha. Loyalty to the Verinder family really is Betteredge's primary motivation at all times, even when he completely disagrees with what he's being asked to do. It also makes me wonder that like, Ezra based this experiment off of his personal experience with opium as well as a medical book right? Why is everyone taking it as some kind of superstitious magic? Like Betteredge himself here says something along the lines of he can't approve of this as he's a good Christian.

    1. I beg to inform your ladyship,” I said, “that I never, to my knowledge, helped this abominable detective business, in any way, from first to last; and I summon Sergeant Cuff to contradict me, if he dares!”

Betteredge....you spent the last few chapters following him around and playing detective yourself. I guess his devotion to the family is so strong he's willing to contradict himself this hard, despite claiming to be a good Christian right before this.

    1. Most people think of loyalty programs as an airline that gives miles to frequent fliers, a hotel that gives points toward a stay or a restaurant that offers a punch card incentive. While these may be called loyalty programs, I’ll argue that they are actually marketing programs disguised as loyalty programs. And while I don’t have a problem with this concept, we need to have a clear understanding of the differences between loyalty and marketing.

    1. How, my lord, I may be censured, that nature censure (v.) 3 pass judgement on, condemn, pronounce sentence on KL III.v.3  thus gives way to loyalty, something fears me to think of

    1. Once you pay for 12 full MiWay fares during any one-week (Monday to Sunday) using your PRESTO card, you can then ride free on MiWay for the remainder of that week!

Those loyalty programs are pretty interesting. Wish the same existed for day and monthly passes.

    1. Then, there comes a choice to be true to one’s culture and history as Antigone was, or to be true to one’s state and ruler no matter what.

What are the consequences of taking each action? For Antigone, it was clear that her decisions led to death on earth and a perceived victory in the underworld, but what does Cavendish believe loyalty can provide? She seems to place value in tradition and order as she says how "At last the Commons won, and then astride/ Fierce Tyrannie on Noble Necks did ride;/ All Monuments pull'd down, that stood long time,/ And Ornaments were then thought a great Crime." This seems to mourn the loss of what once existed and instead has been replaced with tyranny.

    1. But if I don’t watch out for myself, who will?”

The Guard didn't carry out Creon's orders because of loyalty to his ruler, but rather because his life was at stake. Creon is so concerned with stabilizing his power and making sure he is never crossed, demonstrated in how angered he was that Antigone, a woman, had disobeyed his decree. But, his own direct underlings show how they are not in blind loyalty to him but rather feel guilt and remorse for the actions they are forced to do and have motives of their own. Thus, the people of Thebes have shown that Creon's power is nothing more than a facade and that they all act in their own self interest. Ismene, Antigone, the Guard, and Haemon all demonstrated this imbalance in power by directly disobeying or disagreeing with Creon.
