for - book - The Ever-Present Origin - Jean Gebser - to - youtube - The Integral Way of Jean Gebser with Jeremy Johnson - https://hyp.is/gnHv-izuEfCCBZObkKymvw/www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXf2jtl0ndc

comment - I hadn't heard of Gebser before and found this chapter difficult to understand - I found a good introductory video on Geber's work, especially the 5 stages and their meaning - Click on the youtube link above for a good introduction to Gebser's ideas

    1. Talking about his process, he quoted the jazz pianist Keith Jarrett: “I connect every music-making experience I have, including every day here in the studio, with a great power, and if I do not surrender to it nothing happens.” During our conversations, Strong cited bits of wisdom from Carl Jung, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Karl Ove Knausgaard (he is a “My Struggle” superfan), Robert Duvall, Meryl Streep, Harold Pinter (“The more acute the experience, the less articulate its expression”), the Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm, T. S. Eliot, Gustave Flaubert, and old proverbs (“When fishermen cannot go to sea, they mend their nets”). When I noted that he was a sponge for quotations, he turned grave and said, “I’m not a religious person, but I think I’ve concocted my own book of hymns.”

Based on the collection of quotes and proverbs it sounds more like he's got his own commonplace book which he uses to inform his acting process. Sounds almost like he uses them so frequently that he's memorized many of them.

Interesting that he refers to them as "hymns".

Compare this with Eminem's "stacking ammo" for a particular use case.

h/t to Kevin Marks for directing me to this article for this.

    1. Regenerative Ventures

Out of the Trimtab Space Camp course with the Buckminster Fuller Institute in which we were exploring world building with Tony Patrick, Langdon Roberts, Jeremy Lubman, Elsie Iwase, and I gathered to think about how we could become involved in regenerative ventures. This was our initiative, in which we met weekly to think about how we manifest who we are as a more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. The thought was that architecture grows out of values, principles, and intention.

    1. originated in the emotional crisis which he suffered on the death of his father and the series of dreams to which this gave rise.

Dreams associated with traumatic events, used to process these traumatic events. What dreams did I have?

      1. Dream of the inky black void, running through it to smash glass walls after glass walls.
      2. Running away from a soldier and hiding in a cave
      3. Running down the street and then leaping into the air and swimming, swimming through the sky
    2. many neuroses (phobias, hysterical paralysis and pains, some forms of paranoia, and so forth) had their origins in deeply traumatic experiences which had occurred in the patient’s past but which were now forgotten–hidden from consciousness.

This is so true. I have traumatic experiences and possibly complex PTSD associated with the past.
