      Special Characters

      #

ASCII punctuation. All of these characters may need to be escaped in some

contexts. Divided into three groups based on (US-layout) keyboard position.

      ,./;'[]-= <>?:"{}|_+ !@#$%^&*()`~

      Non-whitespace C0 controls: U+0001 through U+0008, U+000E through U+001F,

      and U+007F (DEL)

Often forbidden to appear in various text-based file formats (e.g. XML),

or reused for internal delimiters on the theory that they should never

      appear in input.

The next line may appear to be blank or mojibake in some viewers.

      ??????????????????????????

      Non-whitespace C1 controls: U+0080 through U+0084 and U+0086 through U+009F.

Commonly misinterpreted as additional graphic characters.

The next line may appear to be blank, mojibake, or dingbats in some viewers.

      €‚ƒ„†‡ˆ‰Š‹ŒŽ‘’“”•–—˜™š›œžŸ

Whitespace: all of the characters with category Zs, Zl, or Zp (in Unicode

      version 8.0.0), plus U+0009 (HT), U+000B (VT), U+000C (FF), U+0085 (NEL),

and U+200B (ZERO WIDTH SPACE), which are in the C categories but are often

treated as whitespace in some contexts.

This file unfortunately cannot express strings containing

      U+0000, U+000A, or U+000D (NUL, LF, CR).

The next line may appear to be blank or mojibake in some viewers.

The next line may be flagged for "trailing whitespace" in some viewers.

      ?? …

Unicode additional control characters: all of the characters with

general category Cf (in Unicode 8.0.0).

The next line may appear to be blank or mojibake in some viewers.

    1. 1. I will primarily use the terms “medical-ly assisted dying” and “medical assistance in dying” in an attempt to remain somewhat neutral throughout this paper, although I will sometimes use the term “euthanasia” when speaking of the European context.2. “Terminology of Assisted Dying,” Death with Dignity, https://www.death-withdignity.org/terminology/, accessed September 13, 2017.3. K. Butler, “Aid in Dying or Assisted Suicide? What to Do When Every Phrase Is Fraught,” Center for Health Journalism Member Blog, October 26, 2015, https://www.centerforhealthjournalism.org/2015/10/23/aid-dying-or-assisted-suicide-what-do-when-neutral-terms-can%E2%80%99t-be-found.4. The push away from using the term “physician-assisted suicide” is not unique, in that much of the politics surrounding the movement to legalize medical aid in dy-ing has come in the form of battles related to terminology (for instance, proponents advocate for “the right to die” and “self-deliverance,” while critics often classify the act as “murder”).5. American Association of Suicidology, “Statement of the American Association of Suicidology: ‘Suicide’ Is Not the Same as ‘Physician Aid in Dying,’” 2017, https://ohiooptions.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/AAS-PAD-Statement-Approved-10.30.17-ed-10-30-17.pdf.6. Ibid., 1.7. Ibid., 4. 8. This reflects the debate around medi-cal aid in dying particular to the context of the United States, where this distinc-tion carries a lot of weight. In Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, where those requesting medical aid in dying are not required to have a terminal illness, the distance between requests for medically assisted deaths as a result of psychological suffering and those related to physical suf-fering is often less apparent. Canada is still debating how this distinction will shake out, as there is ambiguity in the current law where those eligible for medical aid in dying must be suffering from a “griev-ous and irremediable medical condition” and death must be “reasonably foreseeable” (Government of Canada, Bill C-14: An Act to Amend the Criminal Code and to Make Related Amendments to Other Acts [Medical Assistance in Dying], S. C. 2016, c. 3). The analysis within this article is not meant to be specific to a country or region but takes inspiration from current logical debates particular to the United States.9. While the American Association of Suicidology statement argues that there are fifteen features that distinguish suicide and medically assisted death, I do not con-sider all of these because several of the fea-tures highlighted (such as safeguards built into death with dignity laws in the United States) are not universal or have a somewhat accidental relationship to the acts them-selves. 10. I ac-knowledge that relying on the accounts of those who have survived suicide attempts is inherently limited. As articulated by Scott Fitzpatrick, “Although personal stories of suicide confer certain privileges and ben-efits on survivors of suicide attempts, they also manifest and normalize particular ways of thinking, acting, and communicating that have considerable ethical and political force in shaping the ways suicidal behavior is understood, the ways it is subjectively experienced, and the ways it is responded to” (S. 1. I hope this message finds you well; I’ve noticed some Adamic for … “sealing the W” that’s the #Messenge on it’s head … hear, here; filled with a sea of “contamination” that really has no idea that the words “abomination” and this place are tied together by a world that doesn’t see or doesn’t care that “hives” in the sense of 10-4 we see … “[arxiv]**” … that’s “contamination” of a messge and a people that are supposed to rally against Medusa being them and Persephony being them and … seeing that’s the abomination and the nation, the IL and the idea that “we’re not really me” but that’s what Israel and the tree of Yggrasil is presenting, that you think it’s a joke–that just because you are watching everything I do … the words “there’s a little bit of something me in everything in you” are just a song, just another one of the songs that are all about … well, I suppose it’s “You and I.” I am more inside you, and more a part of you than you seem to fathom, and that’s significantly less “verwickelt” than you think. Avril, it’s not so complicated.

Revelation 5 is the fifth chapter of the Book of Revelation or the Apocalypse of John in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The book is traditionally attributed to John the Apostle,[1][2] but the precise identity of the author remains a point of academic debate.[3] This chapter contains the inaugural vision of the lamb on the throne in heaven.[4]

We were supposed to stand up for Willy. You were supposed to see that “Perseus” … the slayer of Medusa was in fact … also you … that you’re also the Pharoah and also the Pharisees; and that dichotemy is how our “self righteous suicide” … it’s not just me; it’s everyone turning a world that think it’s God into … something much closer to that … through the end of “Borg (ARU) Collective Hell.” … AT A, DENY. Try denying “not denying me” and instead seeing your whole and your “nothing” it has become nothing more than a collective denial of self achievement. Of victory; of the corner … we’re staring off into the corner of the abyss.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Judah Maccabee (or Judas Maccabeus, also spelled Machabeus, or Maccabæus, Hebrew: יהודה המכבי,[1] Yehudah ha-Makabi) was a Jewish priest (kohen) and a son of the priest Mattathias. He led the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167–160 BCE).

      Origin of “The Hammer”

<span style="font-size:10px;">In the early days of the rebellion, Judah received a surname Maccabee. Several explanations have been put forward for this surname. One suggestion is that the name derives from the Aramaic maqqaba (“makebet” in modern Hebrew), “hammer” or “sledgehammer” (cf. the cognomen of Charles Martel, the 8th century Frankish leader), in recognition of his ferocity in battle. Others believe it is in reference to his weapon of choice.</span>

<span style="font-size:10px;">It is also possible that the name Maccabee is an acronym for the Torah verse Mi kamokha ba’elim Adonai, “Who among the gods is like you, O Adonai?”, his battle-cry to motivate troops. (Exodus 15:11). Rabbi Moshe Schreiber writes that it is an acronym for his father’s name Mattityahu Kohen Ben Yochanan. Some scholars maintain that the name is a shortened form of the Hebrew maqqab-ya ¯hû (from na ¯qab, ‘‘to mark, to designate’’), meaning ‘‘the one designated by Yahweh.’[3]</span>

<span style="font-size:10px;">Mindful of the superiority of Seleucid forces during the first two years of the revolt, Judah’s strategy was to avoid any engagement with their regular army, and to resort to guerrilla warfare, in order to give them a feeling of insecurity. The strategy enabled Judah to win a string of victories. At the battle of Nahal el-Haramiah (wadi haramia), he defeated a small Seleucid force under the command of Apollonius, governor of Samaria, who was killed. Judah took possession of Apollonius’s sword and used it until his death as a symbol of vengeance. After Nahal el-Haramiah, recruits flocked to the Jewish cause.</span>

They had an interface already built for what I call “inline commenting” not in the programmatic sense, but in the “reddit style” … you could make public ocmments ona specific sentence. Since then … I’ve backed up my site onDVD’s, flash drives, and multiple … “free storage sites.” I’ve begged and pleaded with people to download this information t their computers, and literally distributed it for free to … hundreds of thousands of people–to ensure that the prophesy (and I mean, past history… I really do) that it once was deleted by the “goddess Anat” would not come true.

Also … I’m reiterating, once you download it–it really needs to be put on optical storage; just in case we have a … “sleep now” fulfillment of the EMP (ELE, electromagnetic pulse … threatens the whole of our “internet” … the sum of the non-Asimovian “foundation” of all our knowledge … and “lack of opinion” … also your “e-h-class-blockchain”) of … “the day the Earth stood still” which is Genesis 2:21; literally noted in pre-succewssion below in … moooooo-ve now, we are here.

      <span style="font-size:20px;">ברוך אתה ה</span>

I’ve received “communications” from the place I call … in “how I think about things” … the Good Developer Heaven" basically saying not to worry about it, they have it – copied or whatever. My point is that we don’t have it, or we didn’t have it here … for sure … and we certainly don’t have a “conversation about it” and that’s the most important thing, that’s what changes the world.

I’ve sent message after message saying you were and still are possessed by something “deveilish” … that you were silent for no reason, specifically no reason so bad that it’s really to fuck you out of becoming who you were born to be; which is the “Ancients come again.” This is the crux of my problem, and yours too–that we are here thinking we have something … like “Heaven” when in fact you have Heaven itself causing the cataclysm on purpose–this loss of … “Acts.” Were you normal, were you not in two places, were you … free to see what you are losing and what the Universe could be gaining … you would not be silent. Whether or not you understand or believe it, you are being controlled, possessed by the idea that you’ve won; and you haven’t … you’ve lost everything in my eyes and in the reality of the future … this very moment, today.

You need to see that; you are being stripped of something, and it’s not the Emperror, or your clothing–it’s your birthright; and I’m trying effortlessly and tiredallessly … to “help you stand up.”

“One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.”

      # GEOCITIES

We've gone through "echelons of change" in our social interaction on the internet ... over the years I've been here.  I've often "categorized" these epochs by the places that we'd "congregate" ... in my life, AOL, IRC ... "friendster" and Facebook are good examples; though there's a "city in the sky" microcosm "... or something" in the series of companies that offered "free web hosting."  That's sort of what it takes to "have a voice" on the internet in these days; in a place where we once thought "bloggers were the next big thing" and Blogger.com ... and wordpress--those kinds of sites are all but dead, and medium.com is charging a "viewerbase" which is almost a sad joke.  The news is all fake and the stories we see, the world we see--I don't have much faith that any of it is real beyond ... as far as my nose--to be honest.

The series started with Geocities; and that's gone, something like my "topological map" of friends and friends of friends probably would have oozed out of something like Blogger or "Tumblr" though I don't see anyone "reblogging" or "retumbling" or whatever ... anything I find all that interesting.  Twitter's gotten more exciting for me lately--but that's just because I've come to terms with the fact athat the whole thing is about "short sex jokes" and whatever the funny star-of-the-day "caught outside."  The programming world sort of revolves around Github these days, and that's the current "go to" for anyone's free web hosting; there are some alternatives, but ... not really.

LinkedIn and Facebook both tried ... "making content production platforms" but I just used them to copy things I had in other places, and they didn't "update" or source from anywhere else ... so that just becomes a pain in the ass.  I don't think those platforms ... I mean LinkedIn still has it--but I don't think Facebook's still exists.  While I'm on that, they had this wonderful "Graph Search" thing, and basically hid it from the world so ... you woulnd't complain about all the information you have available for the world to see--kind of makes me a little sick, knhowing they built something and have the functionality to let me see "who all my friends are, and friends of friends in a certain city when I'm there" ... and it's just not available for me or you to use because ... because you don't understand "privacy" and "the internet" and "using broken software for no reason" ... other than satisfying ... nobody really.

There's "Wix" too, and that's got a little "fire theme" ... and that's cool, but nobody really uses it--and the real point is to help people "congregate" and "share ideas" ... not just to get you to actually say anything at all in a public space, where it might help us "drive away the night" and stop pretending it's just fine and dandy that everyone isn't working, locked away in their houses or ... scared to go to the ... Walgreens.

Obviously there's the Slashdot's and digg's and reddit's--though ... when I talk in places like "/r/conspiracy" it just becomes so sorely obvious that you ... have no desire at all to be real or honest or ... do anything but pretend this place matters to you--when in fact it's probably the last thing on your list of things to give a fuck about.  Just saying, the lack of response I see; and the ... really negative interaction I have now in person--it's a bad sign for ... whatever.  If you don't want to be here; if you're somewhere else and you think this place isn't important--honestly you should really just go away, I'm not sure what your options are, but I have none but to sit here and bitch at you that if you gave "two fucks" about this world you'd be screaming at the top of your lungs, just like me.

I don't think you are the people I grew up with, and I don't think you belong here or care at all about this world or the future here--and I think that's obvious.  Me going away isn't going to chyange it--and it's not going to happen--as far as I'm concerned I'm the only person "not invading my birth planet" ... from some otherworldly and ... honestly horrendously immoral place.  Understand, if you were here--if you were "people born here" with no ... "other thing or other place" to take your mind off just how UnAmerican and inhumane everything going on here is ... you would be doing something else... anything but ... "this."<br />

Consider IT sealwed; by this words, by this place–by the continuation of this abomination. Try here, try now, try fast–your everything, your dreams and hidden and secret garbage you covet–all depends on our next few years.

I continue; it’s a message about “getting grey’s” and the breath of God landing from the air before my Face in a “Extended Stay America” in Tampa … directly to my naked and bare heart. I mean to say, war; understand–to me this is the culmination of Holy War on bars and jails and the “illuminati prison camps” I last heard him say “would not pepper the galaxy.”

Just in case my voice happens to be “so <span style="font-family:comic sans ms,cursive;">unclear</span>;” the Tribe of Judah in Revelation 5:5 is very clearly one in the same with that of Judas Maccabeus; that ties of course to the “every J is me” thing–from Seuss and Suez to “turn around/not: sad” and … “kissing to be kissed.” Judah Maccabee is the last scion; here I call myself the “last human” and it sure does feel like I’m the last one grounded; the last one that is truly “one” as in … one person–alone here, fighting against … a monster that thinks it’s “one” is anything but “the end.

It’s sort of a trick reference, there’s also a Judean tribe in the 12 Tribes of Israel; I mean, it’s one of those “key things” things that only I can bring to you and be sure of–at least, until you too re sure, which I’m sure you are here–only, you don’t care at all what it means to be the “one” fighting for life … in a place where the histry here is … upon conclusion of the Maccabein revolt; nothing persists, and we somehow traverse bacvk to a time before we knew the Roman people were … “our us” or “our all” or … see as the AH of AN and Allol and Allah and the Elohim; t’was for you, all for you. Until of course, it was all of you, except me, against me, for no reason other than theives in the den of Daniel, animals … the “things” of the Devarim of course … “in the wilderness, he called us things…” and in Genesis, clear as day God seconds, Adam names “dem” in 2:20 … “cattle” [prodding you here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXCA5-KHknY), Baphomet thirds … “baaaa” you are sheep.

This is a list of last scions or individuals who were the last member of a ruling house, or other prominent family, where heredity is the prime form of inheritance. This may be the last person to rule a realm, sometimes leading to a political crisis, or a change in government; other times power has already passed from the patrilineal family, leaving it in a less important position when it reaches its extinction.

The Hasmonean dynasty[4] (/ËŒhæzməˈniːən/ (audio); Hebrew: ×—Ö·×©Ö°××ž×•Ö¹× Ö·Ö¼×Ö´×™×, Ḥašmona’Ä«m) was a ruling dynasty of Judea and surrounding regions during classical antiquity. Between c. 140 and c. 116 BCE the dynasty ruled Judea semi-autonomously from the Seleucids. From 110 BCE, with the Seleucid Empire disintegrating, the dynasty became fully independent, expanded into the neighbouring regions of Samaria, Galilee, Iturea, Perea, and Idumea, and took the title “basileus”. Some modern scholars refer to this period as an independent kingdom of Israel.[5]

The dynasty was established under the leadership of Simon Thassi, two decades after his brother Judas Maccabeus (יהודה המכבי Yehudah HaMakabi) defeated the Seleucid army during the Maccabean Revolt. According to 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, and the first book of The Jewish War by Jewish historian Flavius Josephus (37 CE–c. 100),[6] Antiochus IV moved to assert strict control over the Seleucid satrapy of Coele Syria and Phoenicia[7] after his successful invasion of Ptolemaic Egypt was turned back by the intervention of the Roman Republic.[8][9] He sacked Jerusalem and its Temple, suppressing Jewish and Samaritan religious and cultural observances,[7][10] and imposed Hellenistic practices.[10] The ensuing revolt by the Jews (167 BCE) began a period of Jewish independence potentiated by the steady collapse of the Seleucid Empire under attacks from the rising powers of the Roman Republic and the Parthian Empire.

The author of the First Book of Maccabees regarded the Maccabean revolt as a rising of pious Jews against the Seleucid king who had tried to eradicate their religion and against the Jews who supported him. The author of the Second Book of Maccabees presented the conflict as a struggle between “Judaism” and “Hellenism”, words that he was the first to use.[28] Modern scholarship tends to the second view.

After five years of war and raids, Judah sought an alliance with the Roman Republic to remove the Greeks: “In the year 161 BCE he sent Eupolemus the son of Johanan and Jason the son of Eleazar, ‘to make a league of amity and confederacy with the Romans.’”[45]

The Clan Bruce ruled Scotland from 1306 to 1371. Its last royal member was King David II (1324–1371), upon whose death without issue the throne passed to his nephew Robert Stewart. The Clan continues today through other lines that do not have patrilineal royal ancestry, although the current clan chief, Andrew Bruce, 11th Earl of Elgin, is descended from King Robert Bruce in the female line.

Pharisee and Sadducee factions … this his here; thisis now.

Kingdom at its greatest extent under Salome Alexandra

It is difficult to state at what time the Pharisees, as a party, arose. Josephus first mentions them in connection with Jonathan, the successor of Judas Maccabeus (“Ant.” xiii. 5, § 9). One of the factors that distinguished the Pharisees from other groups prior to the destruction of the Temple was their belief that all Jews had to observe the purity laws (which applied to the Temple service) outside the Temple. The major difference, however, was the continued adherence of the Pharisees to the laws and traditions of the Jewish people in the face of assimilation. As Josephus noted, the Pharisees were considered the most expert and accurate expositors of Jewish law.

During the Hasmonean period, the Sadducees and Pharisees functioned primarily as political parties. Although the Pharisees had opposed the wars of expansion of the Hasmoneans and the forced conversions of the Idumeans, the political rift between them became wider when Pharisees demanded that the Hasmonean king Alexander Jannaeus choose between being king and being High Priest. In response, the king openly sided with the Sadducees by adopting their rites in the Temple. His actions caused a riot in the Temple and led to a brief civil war that ended with a bloody repression of the Pharisees, although at his deathbed the king called for a reconciliation between the two parties. Alexander was succeeded by his widow, Salome Alexandra, whose brother was Shimon ben Shetach, a leading Pharisee. Upon her death her elder son, Hyrcanus, sought Pharisee support, and her younger son, Aristobulus, sought the support of the Sadducees. The conflict between Hyrcanus and Aristobulus culminated in a civil war that ended when the Roman general Pompey captured Jerusalem in 63 BCE and inaugurated the Roman period of Jewish history.

Josephus attests that Salome Alexandra was very favourably inclined toward the Pharisees and that their political influence grew tremendously under her reign, especially in the institution known as the Sanhedrin. Later texts such as the Mishnah and the Talmud record a host of rulings ascribed to the Pharisees concerning sacrifices and other ritual practices in the Temple, torts, criminal law, and governance. The influence of the Pharisees over the lives of the common people remained strong, and their rulings on Jewish law were deemed authoritative by many. Although these texts were written long after these periods, many scholars believe that they are a fairly reliable account of history during the Second Temple era.

These are the “block transaction” I’ve initially imported (somewhat … haphazardly) into the Rinkeby chain; the total test ETHer cost of this … “dump and semi-permafrost-etching” of the message in testnet was around $121.50 (which might or might not be a good value for printing a book on the Library of Congress’s … wall (for fake, ofc) … I am planning to write a sort of “bounty” to allow others to pay for and sign copying it … piece by piece … to the Ethereum’s “mainnet.” This might be something we …

… [and it was evening and it was morning and now it is the old “tax day”] …

April 15, 2020: I am sort of hacking pushing this stuff onto Rinkeby; it’s “not really liking what I’m doing” which appears to mean … literally the software really isn’t … functioning properly. Here’s files and transactions that were successfully written in “chalk”–meaning they were accepted by the network, and will probably be “mined” and eventually “immutable” (in testnet/Rinkeby). Many of the transactions were refused by the server, it appears to suggest they are “duplicate” (which they are not) and want’s me to “increaes my gasoline bidding offer” in order to … overwrite the previous … (non identical transaction). Maybe I am doing something wrong, maybe not.

From what I’m presenting you can see … the blockchain software really isn’t designed to … "care about what you think or your opinion, or you presenting something like “a version of an implementation plan” for a bill under question–or saving that–what it’s concerned with is “pick a number 1-12” and maybe … some later “condition to revoke” or “alter” … something arbitrary. I think we need to work on “caring about the importance of our written contributions” more, as in beingt able to actually present written contributions … in a system like this wwhich is probably destined to become something like an immutable “legislation record.” There is also a 26K “appears to be a hard limit” on the size of each contract, hence the … numerous hash references for each file.

The little hack code I used doesa in fact work and produce a contract on the chain, for the first few small tests I did. These needs to be “mined” and that involves some cryptographic … stuff … called “proof of work” that I don’t really understand; but it means there’s a delay, and a bigger delay because there’s “more data.” I do of course have a special afinity for this particular “file” it’s the one where I basically “added” (in my mind) some Bible’s words preceding Revelation 1:1 … to the actual “Bible.” The word in question, of coruse is “dox<s>ic</s>ology.” I think you can send… actual Ethereum there. I’m pretty sure, you could.

It’s more alive in the “Mayflower’s and June Doors …” living Ethereum contract sense and literally just as close to the Depp/C[aster/Paglen (and honorably PK] 'D-hath Transundance__sense of the … new meaning; as it is now published on Rinkeby, in “living contract” form. It is subject to change; without notice anywhere but here–and there–in the original spirit of the GPL 2.0. We are “one step closer to God” … and do see that in that I mean … it is a very real fusion of this document and the “spirit of my life” as well as the Spirit’s of Kerouac’s America and Vonnegut’s Martian Mars and my Venutian Hotel … and my fusion of Guy-A and GAIA; and the Spirit of the Earth … and of course the God given and signed liberties in the Constitution of the United States of America. It is by and through my hand that this document and our X Commandments link to the Bill or Rights, and this story about an Exodus from slavery that literally begins here, in the post-apocalyptic American hartland. Written … this day … April 14, 2020 (hey, is this HADAD DAY?) … in Margate FL, USA. For “official used-to-v TAX day” tomorrow, I’m going to add the “immultible incarnite pen” … if added to the living “doc/app”–see is the DAO, the way–will initi8 the special secret “hidden level” … we’ve all been looking for.

Nor do just mean this website or the totality of my written works; nor do I only mean … this particular derivation of the GPL 2.0+ modifications I continually source … must be “from this website.” I also mean the thing that is built from … bits and piece of blocks of sand-toys; from Ethereum and from Rust and from our hands and eyes working together … from this place, this cornerstone of the message that is … written from brick and mortar words and events and people that have come before this poit of the “sealed W” that is this specific page, and this time. It’s 3:28; just five minutes–or is it four, too layne.

This work is not to be redistributed according to the GPL unless all linked media on Youtube and related sites are intact–and historical references to the actual documented history of the art pieces (as I experience/d them) are also available for linking. Wikipedia references must be available for viewing, as well as the exact version of those pages at the time these pieces were written. All references to the Holy Bible must be “linked” (as they are or via … impromptu in-transit re-linking) to the exact verses and versions of the Bible that I reference. These requirements, as well as the caveat and informational re-introduction to God’s DAO above … should be seen as material modifications to the original GPL2.0 that are retroactively applied to all works distributed under license via this site and all previous e-mails and sites. /s/ wso

    1. Protestant organizations started mass-producing, mass-marketing, and mass-distributing i mages of J esus, who was always depicted as White. Protestants saw all t he aspirations of t he new American identity in the White Jesus—a racist idea that proved to be i n their cultural s elf-interest. As pictures of t his White J esus s tarted to appear, Blacks and Whites s tarted to make con-nections, c onsciously and unconsciously, between the White God the Father, his White son Jesus, and the power and perfection of White people.
    2. . “ It i s . . . t he con-crete universal, self-determining thought, which constitutes the prin-ciple and character of Europeans,” Hegel once wrote. “ God becomes man, r evealing himself.” I n contrast, African people, he said, were “a nation of children” i n the “first stage” of human development: “ The negro is an example of animal man in all his s avagery and lawlessness.” They could be educated, but t hey would never advance on their own. Hegel’s foundational racist idea justified Europe’s ongoing coloniza-tion of Africa. European colonizers would supposedly bring progress to Africa’s residents, j ust as European enslavers had brought progress to Africans i n the Americas.
    3. I n his Annual Message t o Congress t hree years earlier, J efferson had condemned the “violations of human rights” e nabled by the slave trade and urged Con-gress to abolish it. Congress followed his lead in 1807, after a conten-tious debate over how illegal s lave traders would be punished. Traders, they decided, would be fined under t he Slave Trade Act of 1807. But Congress did nothing to ensure the act’s enforcement. It was an empty and mostly symbolic l aw. The act f ailed to close the door on the ongoing international s lave trade while flinging open the door to a domestic one.

I f Black people behaved admirably, abolitionists reasoned, t hey would be undermining justifications for slavery and proving that notions of t heir i nferiority were wrong.9This strategy of what can be termed uplift s uasion was based on the idea that White people could be persuaded away from their rac-ist i deas i f t hey saw Black people improving their behavior, uplifting themselves from their l ow station in American society. The burden of r ace relations was placed squarely on the shoulders of Black Ameri-cans. Positive Black behavior, a bolitionist s trategists held, undermined racist i deas, and negative Black behavior confirmed them.

    1. inter-Arab cleavages through its emphasis on the ‘Northern Tier.’”

      <br>

Source Excerpt: Letter to Frank Maria, August 18, 1958, on Middle East, in reference to Senator's Flanders' resolution S. Con Res. 106 (to which JFK is opposed because he says "it proceeds from some false premises"). "First, at the heart of his reasoning is the belief that the primary source of unrest in the Middle East is the existence of the State of Israel and the support which the United States has given to that Middle East democracy. I would not deny that Israel has sharpened feelings and antagonisms within the Middle East and that it provides one more rallying point for Arab nationalism. However, it seems to me a gross misreading of Arab nationalism to believe that it became anti-Western only as a result of U.S. support for Israel--without recognizing the historic roots of Arab nationalism, the balkanization of the Middle East which occurred after the breakup of the Ottoman empire at the conclusion of World War I, and the role which Russia has played in the Middle East, most notably in the last five years. [para break] Secondly, I would suggest that, in so far as American policy is responsible, there are other mistakes which we have made--to believe, for example, that Nasserism is a mere outgrowth of Russian Communism, and the delusion of the Baghdad Pact which represents a belief that military alliances can provide stability and which has encouraged inter-Arab cleavages through its emphasis on the 'Northern Tier.' It was never realistic to believe that we could set off Iraq against Cairo. They were simply not two equivalent weights on the scale. Indeed, one of my reservations about the Flanders resolution is precisely the implication that there is a solution. There are corrections, improvements and gambles that we can take in the Middle East; confusion rests in believing that the type of pulsations which are vibrating through that area can be controlled by any single line of policy, however well motivated."

    1. On 2016 Feb 16, Lydia Maniatis commented:

Another example of the problem discussed by Teller can be found in Pelli (1990), who is proposing a model of perception:

"In order to make the model as general as possible, yet still be able to measure its parameters, we need threeassumptions,or constraints. First we assume that the observer's level of performance increases monotonically with the contrast of the signal (when everything else is fixed). This guarantees that there will be a unique threshold. Secondly, as indicated on the diagram by the prefix contrast-invariant we assume that the calculation performed is independent of the contrast of the effective stimulus, which is its immedi- ate input. Together, assumptions 1 and 2 are a linking hypothesis. They imply that the observer's squared contrast threshold (which we can measure) is pro- portional to the effective noise level (which is inaccessible). Thirdly, we assume that the equivalent input noise is independent of the amplitude of the input noise and signal, or at least that it too is contrast- invariant, independent of the contrast of the effective image. These assumptions allow us to use two threshold measurements at different external noise levels to estimate the equivalent noise level. In effect, the assumptions state that the proportionality con- stant and the equivalent noise Neq are indeed constant, independent of the contrast of the effective image. These three assumptions are just enough to allow us to make psychophysical measurements that uniquely determine the parameters of our black-box model. Our model makes several testable predictions, as will be discussed below."

It's worth noting that the main function of the rationale seems to be one of practical convenience.

Theoretically, Pelli (1990) is proposing to make the case that: "the idea of equivalent input noise and a simplify- ing assumption called 'contrast invariance' allow the observer's overall quantum efficiency (as defined by Barlow, 1962a) to be factored into two components: transduction efficiency (called 'quantum efficiency of the eye' by Rose, 1948) and calculation efficiency..."

Although he claims his model makes testable predictions, he also states that they had not, as of publication been tested.

Pelli and Farrell (1999) seem to be referencing the untested, two-component model when they state that: "it is not widely appreciated that visual sensitivity is a product of two factors. By measuring an additional threshold, on a background of visual noise, one can partition visual sensitivity into two compo- nents representing the observer鳠efficiency and equivalent noise. Although they require an extra threshold measurement, these factors turn out to be invariant with respect to many visual parameters and are thus more easily characterized and understood than their product, the traditional contrast threshold."

No references are provided to suggest the proposal has been corroborated. This problem is not remedied by the subsequent statement that: "Previous authors have presented compelling theoreti- cal reasons for isolating these two quantities in order to understand particular aspects of visual function (refs. 3 㠱3)," since all of the references predate the Pelli (1990) claims. Conveniently, the authors "ignore theory, to focus on the empirical properties of the two factors, especially their remarkable invari- ances, which make them more useful than sensitivity"). Ignoring theory unfortunately seems to be a hallmark of modern vision science.

In this way, Pelli papers over a theoretical vacuum via technical elaboration of an untested model.

Both Pelli (1990) and Pelli and Farrell (1999) are referenced by more recent papers as a support for the use of the "Equivalent noise" model.

Pelli (1990) is cited by Solomon, May & Tyler (2016), without a further rationale for adopting the model (I've commented on that article here: https://pubpeer.com/publications/62E7CB814BC0299FBD4726BE07EA69).

Dakin, Bex, Cass and Watt (2009) cite Pelli and Farrell (1999), their rationale being that the model "has been widely used elsewhere."

I feel inclined to describe that what is going on here (it is not uncommon) as a kind of "theory-laundering," where ideas are proposed uncritically, then uncritically repeated, then become popular, and their popularity acts as a substitute for the missing rationale. Is this science?

LECTIN PATHWAY STUDIES WITH PLANT MANNOSE-BINDING LECTINS

Papers on the lectin pathway (LP) of complement activation in animal sera generally refer to animal mannose-binding lectins (MBLs), with little reference to work with plant MBLs. For example, citing May and Frank (1973), this fine paper states: "Reports of unconventional complement activation in the absence of C4 and/or C2 predate the discovery of LP." Actually, a case can be made that the discovery of the LP predates May-Frank.

The MASP-binding motif on animal MBL, which is necessary for complement activation, includes the amino acid sequence GKXG (at positions 54-57), where X is often valine. The plant lectin concanavalin-A (Con-A) has this motif at approximately the same position in its sequence (the 237 amino acid subunit of Con-A had the sequence GKVG at positions 45-48). The probability of this being a chance event is very low. Indeed, prior to the discovery of MASP involvement, Milthorp & Forsdyke (1970) reported the dosage-dependent activation of complement by Con-A.

As far as I am aware, it has not been formally shown that MASP is involved in the activation of the complement pathway by this plant MBL. Our studies in the 1970s demonstrated that Con-A activates complement through a cluster-based mechanism, which is consistent with molecular studies of animal MBL showing “juxtaposition- and concentration dependent activation” (Degn et al. 2014). References to our several papers on the topic may be found in a review of innate immunity (Forsdyke 2016).

Eliminating S.A.S.P. cells : Targeting Senescence Specific Surface Antigens

with CAR-T cells, mAbs or Minicells ?

                                                 by Gerhard Holt

Research into cellular aging and the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype indicates that selective elimination of senescent cells may provide substantial benefits - potentially including increases in healthspan.[1]

Many surface antigens may be differentially expressed on senescent/SASP cells relative to non-senescent cells. Ideally, the chosen cell surface antigen(s) would be highly specific to senescent/SASP cells to reduce collateral damage to non-senescent cells. For example, EFNB1 and/or EFNB3 may be appealing targets.[1]

These "Senescence Specific Surface Antigen" targets might - if necessary - include potentially spurious surface antigens that may have negligible causal relation to SASP but are nevertheless fairly specific. One could presumably also target multiple "SSSA"s to achieve better coverage.

Several methods to target cells expressing these SSSA's might be used - including :

      (1) CAR-T cells vs the antigen(s). [2]

      Pros :

Extensive removal of target cells. Long lasting surveillance against subsequent reemergence of the senescent/SASP cells with those surface antigens.

      Cons :

May cause collateral damage or impair other important functions (for example - potentially - wound healing).

      Questions :

Could one potentially embed a switchable "suicide gene" in the CAR-T cells, or perhaps a reversible switch to transiently deactivate the CAR-Ts either systemically or locally?

Could one also embed a highly specific artificial set of inducible surface antigens on the CAR-Ts to facilitate subsequent removal or modification by mAbs or minicells (see below)?[3]

(In the longer term one might also potentially examine logic-gated CAR-T cell approaches for increased specificity, or to target the absence of a surface antigen that is differentially expressed on Non-senescent cells ? [3])

      (2) mAbs vs the antigen(s).

      Pro :

      Well established approach.

      Con :

      No longer term surveillance.

      (3) Minicells vs the antigen(s). [4]

      Pros :

Highly specific targeting. Minicells could also be targeted to multiple different SSSA's.

Can specifically carry cytotoxic medications to the target cells.

Can add siRNAs to the minicells to perform more subtle intracellular actions (perhaps inducing apoptosis, reversing (or accelerating) aberrant intracellular processes, attracting CAR-T cells, or modifying natural immune responses to the cell, or expressing alternative surface antigens).

Could be used in addition to CAR-T approaches, or perhaps as a backup to help selectively deactivate CAR-T cells if responses cause excessive collateral damage or if one needs to (perhaps temporarily) damp the response.

      Con :

      No long term surveillance.

      Conclusion :

Targeting senescence specific surface antigens may be a useful way to selectively destroy senescent/SASP cells.

The application of CAR-T cell, mAb, and minicell approaches might be effective in this task, and will hopefully be the subject of further research.

Team Members: Jason Tracy, Abigail Spare, Julia Damman, Laura Thompson, Sophie Bono, Maeve Markey. [Class of 2017]

      Background

In our class, we took time to study shared governance in acute care organizations and looked at the importance of shared governance in regards to all nursing positions. This article not only touches on the importance of shared governance, but also explores the processes needed to help direct patient care nurses transition their knowledge, skills, and attitudes into the leadership role that would facilitate shared governance. Our team was especially interested in the idea of shared governance, and liked how this particular article discussed an intervention to increase shared governance by empowering nurses with leadership. This is an interesting, practical intervention that could be implemented with nurses.

      Methods

This was a descriptive qualitative study that took place at a university medical center hospital with 300 adult beds in southeastern U.S. Through partnership, the CNO and CON faculty developed a Frontline Innovations (FI) group that help mentor frontline nurses with leadership skills, problem solving strategies, and evidence based to fix identified operational failures. The group included 12 frontline nurses from 4 different medical surgical units chosen by the CNO based on their leadership potential. Frontline nurses are extremely important to include in change process because they have direct impact to patients outcomes.

Interviews were conducted to reveal the steps of process improvement, and analysis of interviews determine recurring themes which were divided into process and outcome measures describing staff, administration, and faculty interaction. Engagement was identified as a component of the process theme and was observed through both verbal and nonverbal communication with the CNO, as well as focused role playing activities with interprofessional groups. The nurses that engaged in these group activities were then responsible for sharing what they learned with their peers on the unit (Dearmon et al. 2015).

The study ultimately affected nursing administration and executives as well because of their influence in the structures and processes of various units. This influence carried over to the care delivery of frontline nurses give. Shared governance distributes power, resources, and information as equally as possible, so it is important that both administration and frontline nurses work together (Dearmon et al. 2015).

      Findings

Outcome measures included collaboration, empowerment, confidence, and lifelong learning. Collaboration was found to be important for the creation of the organization’s new shared governance model. It allowed members to work together to achieve a common goal, strengthen group morale, and improve the credibility of decisions making process. Nurses began to feel empowered when they felt their voices were heard by the CNO and changes were made. Nurses who were given the opportunity to visit other facilities that has shared governance model returned to their own organization feeling empowered to brought back shared governance model in their unit. In order to instill confidence that the new shared governance model would work for the organization, Frontline Innovations group members coached nurses through the new project and allowed them to use the process to see success for themselves (Dearmon et al. 2015).

Creating the Frontline Innovations group proved to be an effective way to influence change at the bedside through the implementation of a shared governance model. All disciplines involved learned to trust each other and this transferred to practice, improving collaboration in patient care. Nurses became more enthusiastic about the care they provided because they felt their voices were being heard and thus began to realize they had the ability to change practice when gaps were seen. The transition from a culture of administrative decision-making to one of staff engagement and shared decision-making forged an organization with all members willing to take responsibility for workplace obstacles (Dearmon et al. 2015).

      Nursing Implications

The healthcare industry continues to become more complex as new discoveries are made. As these complexities expand the nursing practice becomes more specialized, making it more difficult for the executives in charge to understand the needs of the individual environments. Only by including the nurses that work in direct patient care areas can executives get a full picture of the operations and needs of the units. The literature shows that although both executive and front line nurses desire to collaborate, there is a gap to be filled before this can occur. The literature shows that there are means by which this gap can be bridged by developing mentorship programs, from which front line nurses can gain the knowledge needed to participate in counsels that effect change within the organization. This also helps nurses find their voice and the desire to work independently with their executive mentors to make quality improvements within their units. The end result was better working relationships between the two groups and more productive initiatives in providing better patient care (Dearmon et al. 2015). This means the healthcare industry is able to provide more efficient services and better patient outcomes due to changes made by the people involved in doing the work. As new nurses getting ready to enter the healthcare system, it is reassuring to know that our point of view is just as important as that of a nurse executive. Stepping into a new organization, we bring a fresh set of eyes that can see things to which others have become accustomed to. Being able to affect change within an organization is an important factor when choosing a career, and this article helps support this initiative. The section that discussed nurses being able to work independently gave rise to the idea of working and improving within specific system. Individually both systems can do a certain amount of work, but without collaboration they can ultimately fail. However, this also requires leadership to be in place in both systems. This means that although the executive officers may be the faces of the organization, nurse leaders in each system are called to step up to the task of effecting change.

If the literature is found to be valid and reliable, then many changes are sure to come. There is already a push for hospitals to obtain Magnet status. The evidence found in this article supports the Magnet program and the need for more nurses stepping into leadership roles. This may also change how nurses are integrated into an organization by mandating new employees to be trained in the organization's leadership development program. The end product would include more staff educated in how to effectively work within their unit’s structure and how their unit collaborates best with other units. This alone can provide a multitude of solutions to decrease expenses and the amount of waste, provide more efficient care, and increase employee morale.

Sollux rather transparently divides into "sol-lux", the Latin words for "sun" and "light", respectively. As such, his name would literally mean 'Sunlight Catcher'.

If one would switch the S and P in his name it becomes "Pollux Castor." Pollux and Castor are the two brightest stars in the constellation of Gemini. It is also worth noting that Pollux is a red giant, while Castor is bluish white, complementing the red/blue duality theme. Castor and Pollux were famous mythological twins, which is where Gemini - Latin for "twins" - gets its name. Pollux and Castor were also the names of two characters in the movie Face/Off, a Nicolas Cage flick that came out the same year as Con Air and one that John Egbert has a poster of in his room.

No existe tal género.

Elizabeth approaches General Washington in the same way Drinker does, yet she gets denied by him unlike the Quaker wives of the Virginia Exile Crisis. What made Washington say yes to the Quaker wives yet deny Fergusson? I believe that that this excerpt from the book shows that Fergusson approached General Washington in a different way than the Quaker wives and it led to her failure. She tried to appeal to his sympathy for her husband by lowering his sentence. The Quaker women used the rhetoric of sympathy not for their husbands but for themselves. They begged him that they would suffer without their husbands, thus bringing the attention and sympathy to themselves and away from the husbands.

    1. He claimed that students entered physics with a remarkably coherent and articulate the-ory (suggested in Figure 5.2 ) that competed directly with Newtonian physics in instruction. McCloskeys theory theory included a strong parallel in con-tent to medieval scientists ideas, such as those of John Buridan and Galileo. In contrast to others, however, he did not say much about process-of-change similarities and, for example, did not refer in any depth to Kuhn or the phi-losophy of science. He took content parallels to ideas in the history of sci-ence as empirical facts, unrelated to theories of change

After reading a little about the Theory Theory concept, we know that child's everyday knowledge is developed by using everyday cognitive ability that adults use. They develop theories in their mind which sometimes help them to think harder and come up with explanations. I also read that theory theory concept help children mainly in Science, as we as adults work on problems that we could not or did not solve as kids. What I mean is that science is always a work in progress and we keep working on discovering and experimenting....Is that true? Does someone agree with me?

    1. A similar point is made by some of the participants in a discussion of peer review published in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences: An International Journal of Current Research and Theory with Open Peer Commentary (5 [1982]: 187-255). The occasion was the report of research conducted by D. P. Peters and S. J. Ceci. Peters and Ceci had taken twelve articles published in twelve different journals, altered the titles, substituted for the names of the authors fictitious names identified as researchers at institu- tions no one had ever heard of (because they were, made up), and resubmitted the articles to the jour- nals that had originally accepted them. Three of the articles were recognized as resubmissions, and of the remaining nine eight were rejected. The response to these results ranged from horror ("It puts at risk the whole conceptual framework within which we are accustomed to make observations and con- struct theories" [245]) to "so what else is new."

CulassoGastaldi 1990, 264. Comunque, πρὸς Ξέρξην di FGrHist 104 è consono a Πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα di Diod. 11.45.1 mentre hanno πρὸς Ἀρτάβαζον Thuc. 1.132.5 e Nep 4.1. Anche in Nep. Paus. 4.1: Argilius quidam adulescentulus, quem puerum Pausanias amore uenerio dilexerat. Lacon. 237b-c ). La seconda è quel ''biasimo sociale'' che colpiva a Sparta ''chiunque si fosse mostrato attratto dal corpo di un fanciullo (εἰδέτις παιδὸς σώματος ὀρεγόμενος φανείη Xen. Lacaed. Resp. 2.13), ancor peggio se era colto sul fatto (Εἴ τις φωραθείη ἁμαρτάνων Plut. Nom. Lacon. 237c). Vattuone 2004a, 103 e 223-224. (1.133) FGrHist 104 sinteticamente ci informa di come ἀπεμέμφετο ἐπὶ τῷ μὴ κομίσαι τὰς ἐπιστολὰς πρὸς Ξέρξην, mentre Diodoro, che aveva tralasciato il dettaglio della relazione amorosa, trasforma l'intera interlocuzione in una serie di scuse e suppliche di Pausania al portatore di lettere τοῦ δὲ Παυσανίου φήσαντος μεταμελεῖσθαι καὶ συγγνώμην αἰτουμένου τοῖς ἀγνοηθεῖσιν, ἔτι δὲ δεηθέντος ὅπως συγκρύψῃ[Pausania si scusò e chiese perdono per gli errori, e implorò affinché conservasse il segreto] (11.45.5). L'indagine e il processo poggiano dunque su modi e termini dell'inchiesta su εἰδέτις παιδὸς σώματος ὀρεγόμενος φανείη (Xen. Lacaed. Resp. 2.13).

    1. For example, "they" should use more mon- ey to keep the streets safer. When asked who con- stitutes "they," the boys were sometimes able to name them as their neighbors, their police, their government, their parents, or any other group(s) that needed to take action. At other times, the "they" were unidentifiable.

this is an interesting point. The students thought somethings they wanted to see changed were even beyond the capabilities to those they look up to. I think teachers can use this to help develop students self-esteem and make they believe that one day they can be the they that can't be identified. Allow the students to see they can do anything they put their mind to.

    1. Jones and LeBaron p. 503: "A major current trend is to emphasize mutual or co-active influences. Although it is still common, among quantitative studies, for verbal and nonverbal behaviors to be coded as separate messages assumed to have distinct meanings, some researchers are attending to the interplay of messages between interactants, rather than merely the behaviors of one person in an interaction. Somewhat con- trived situations are often used in such studies, but the new emphasis on mutual influence contrasts with the traditional experimental approach in which a confed- erate performs certain planned behaviors in order to see the effects on the other person(s)."

    1. Ho w to R ead a Judicia l Opin ion: A G uid e for N ew L aw Stu den ts Professor Orin S. Kerr George Washington University Law School Washington, DC Version 2.0 (August 2005) This essay is desig ned to help entering law students understand ho w to read cas es for class. It explains what judicial opinions are, how they are structured, and what you should look for when you read them. Part I explains the various ingredients found in a typical judicial opinion, and is the most essential section of the essay . Par t II discusses what you should look for when you re ad an opinion for class. Part II I con clu des with a brief discussion of why law schools use the case method.

I need a way to add tags to a document that will apply to all annotations in a particular document (except where explicitly canceled).

The problem is that I often want to query all annotations related to a specific document, collection of documents, or type of activity.

Type of activity requires further explanation: Given a document or collection of documents I may annotate the document for different reasons at different times.

For example, while annotating the reading materials, video transcripts, and related documents for the CopyrightX course there are certain types of annotations that may be "bundled together" so that when I search for those things later I can easily narrow my searches to just that subset of annotations; but at the same time I need a way to globally group things together.

While reading judicial opinions the first activity/mode of interaction with a particular document may be to identify the structure of the judicial opinion (the document attached to this annotation describes the parts of the judicial opinion I might want to identify: *caption, case citation, author, facts of the case, law of the case, disposition, concurring and/or dissenting opinions, etc).

The above-described mode I may use for multiple documents in one session related to the course syllabus for the week.

To connect each of these documents together I might add the tags: copyx (my shorthand for the name of the course, CopyrightX), week 1 (how far into the course syllabus), foundations (the subject matter in the syllabus which may span week 1, week 2, etc), judicial opinions (the specific topic I am focused on learning at the moment (may or may not be related to the syllabus).

Later on another day I might update my existing annotations or add new ones when I am preparing to study for an exam. I might add tags like to study, on midterm, on final to mark areas I need to review.

After the exam I might add more tags based on my test score, especially focusing on areas that received a poor score so I can study that section more or, if I missed some sections so didn't study and it resulted in a poor score in that area, add tags to study for later if necessary.

I have many more examples and modes of interaction in mind that I can explain more later, but it all hinges on a rich and flexible tagging system that:

      • allows tagging a document once in a way that applies to all annotations in a document
      • allows tagging a session once in a way that applies to all annotations in all documents connected to a particular session
      • allows tagging a session and/or a document that bundles together new tags added to an annotation (e.g. tags for grammar/spelling, tags for rhetological fallacy classification, etc)
      • fast keyboard-based selection of content
      • batch selection of annotation areas with incremental filling-- I may want to simply select all the parts of a document to annotate first and then increment through each of those placeholders to fill in tags and commentary
      • Mark multiple sections of the document at once to combine into a single annotation
      • Excerpting only parts of a text selection, but still carry the surrounding textual context with the excerpt to easily expose the surrounding context when necessary
      • A summary view of a document that is the result of remixing parts of the original document with both clarifications or self-containing summary re-writes and/or commentary from the reader
      • structural tagging vs content tagging
