    1. Over geological time, those landscape proportions have changed in response to shifting tectonic plates. This has changed how efficient silicate weathering has been at removing the CO2 emitted by volcanoes, thereby allowing high CO2 levels and warm climates at times, like in the Cretaceous, or lower CO2 levels and a cool climate when plate tectonics was building lots of “kinetic-limited” mountainous landscapes, like over the last few million years.

Wow, so when there are more mountains, more CO2 is drawn down as there's more terrain to expose the rock for weathering

    1. Wealthy countries can create prosperity while using less materials and energy if they abandon economic growth as an objective.

!- related to : Post Colonialist Unequal Exchange and drain - As per Jason Hickel et al article "Imperialist appropriation in the world economy: Drain from the global South through unequal exchange, 1990–2015" - https://hyp.is/go?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%2Fscience%2Farticle%2Fpii%2FS095937802200005X&group=world

!- Wealthy country degrowth : comment - From the findings of the related article above, the Global North has a very compelling responsibility to degrow AND to help the Global South develop within planetary boundaries. - This is all stated in the climate justice argument, but, as mentioned by Prof. Kevin Anderson in a passing comment, 100 billion is a drop in the bucket. Transfers will need to be in the trillions - Kevin Anderson talk: CO2 budgets 2022: Allocating Global Carbon Budgets to Nations - https://hyp.is/go?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdocdrop.org%2Fvideo%2F35-1n1ZowvM%2F&group=world - Still, the term degrowth is unpopular with mainstream economists. Perhaps a better strategy is to frame it as simultaneous degrowth of MATERIALISM of Global North countries but regrowth of NON-MATERIALIST wealth of Global North Economies and both MATERIALIST and NON-MATERIALIST growth of Global South countries.

      55g CO2/kWh laut Umweltbundesamt

    1. There is no such thing as a zero- or close-to-zero emission nuclear power plant. Even existing plants emit due to the continuous mining and refining of uranium needed for the plant. Emissions from new nuclear are 78 to 178 g-CO2/kWh, not close to 0. Of this, 64 to 102 g-CO2/kWh over 100 years are emissions from the background grid while consumers wait 10 to 19 years for nuclear to come online or be refurbished, relative to 2 to 5 years for wind or solar. In addition, all nuclear plants emit 4.4 g-CO2e/kWh from the water vapor and heat they release. This contrasts with solar panels and wind turbines, which reduce heat or water vapor fluxes to the air by about 2.2 g-CO2e/kWh for a net difference from this factor alone of 6.6 g-CO2e/kWh.

    1. Manmade CO2 Does Not Cause Measurable Warming

Actually, CO2 does cause measurable warming. The warming effect is not huge, and not worrisome, but it is not zero, and it is large enough to be measurable.

There really is no question about the fact that the Earth's average temperature has warmed slightly, as CO2 levels have risen, over the last six decades. The magnitude of that change is debatable: different "global" composite temperature indices vary in their measured trend by approximately a factor of two. But none of them show zero trend.

The "climate sensitivity" of the Earth's temperatures to changes in CO2 level can be estimated by careful comparison of measured temperatures to measured CO2 levels. Here's an example on my web site, showing how that can be done:

Climate change is a highly politicized issue, so, as is the case for any politicized issue, if you want to understand it you need to seek out balanced information. If you want to learn about the SCIENCE of climate change, instead of political spin, here's a list of resources which can help:

      It has:

      ● accurate introductory climatology information

      ● in-depth science from BOTH skeptics & alarmists

      ● links to balanced debates between experts on BOTH sides

      ● information about climate impacts

      ● links to the best blogs on BOTH sides of the issue

    1. even if all travel were completely carbon-free (imagine a renewable-powered, electrified train system, combined with personal EVs and battery-powered airplanes), there’d still be another 80 percent of fossil fuel emissions billowing into the skies.

Transport - "only" 20 % of carbon emissions.

    2. “I think the main issue is that people focus way, way too much on people’s personal footprints, and whether they fly or not, without really dealing with the structural things that really cause carbon dioxide levels to go up,” said Gavin Schmidt, a climatologist and the director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City.

Key quote. Correct. Individual action is not enough. We need a collective change of behaviour.
