    1. Abba Eban who was an Israeli politician and diplomat. In March 1967 Eban visited Japan, and the New York Times reported on a remark that he made:[1] 1967 March 19, New York Times, “Japan Welcomes Eban Warmly; Her Industry Impresses Israeli” by Robert Trumbull, Page 14, New York. (ProQuest) Commenting that the passage of time offered the best hope of an end to the problems of Israel and her neighbors, he said: “Men and nations behave wisely when they have exhausted all other resources.”

Potential origin of a phrase often misattributed to Winston Churchill in a slightly different form.

Later in June 1967 Eban commented similarly:

...nations do behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.

    1. CAUTION:

The slice_plot() function is not in the stable MosaicCalc package but in a beta. Given the terribly cumbersome compilation of packages in R the best is to use an R base alternaive,

For functions a good one is curve(),

      curve(expr = FUNCTION, from = A, to = B)

      for instance: fx <- makeFun(x^2 ~ x)

      curve(expr = fx, from = -10, to = 10)

    1. Also, service providers can offer passkeys without needing passwords as an alternative sign-in or account recovery method.
    2. When a user is asked to sign-in to an app or website, the user approves the sign-in with the same biometric or PIN that the user has to unlock the device (phone, computer or security key). The app or website can use this mechanism instead of the traditional (and insecure) username and password.

    1. Holy mackerel, when I saw the subject line of this topic I thought about Zoot – which I have not thought about in many months, and not for many years before that. Zoot was my introduction to this sort of “everything bucket” app. I also tried Info Select – which is also on Windows and may be an answer to @Claude’s question, assuming it’s still updated – and then to DevonThink and Evernote. My introduction to Zoot was an article by journalist James Fallows, of all people. He is the former editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, and reports mainly on public policy and politics. I wonder if he is still using Zoot? Three more probable options: Microsoft OneNote will be the most accessible to most Windows users. It doesn’t get you the search and “see also” of DevonThink. Obsidian and Roam Research take a different approach to the content-organization problems than DevonThink/OneNote/Evernote do. They rely on links and backlinks, like a personal Wikipedia. But they achieve the same goal of organizing information. They have search. AFAIK there’s nothing comparable to “see also,” but users report the same kind of serendipitous connections just by following the links they themselves made in the past. Another liability of Roam and Obsidian compared with DT: DT supports pretty much any kind of document that your computer can read, whereas Obsidian only supports Markdown, PDF, and images. I’m not as familiar with Roam, but I believe it has the same limitations. P.S. Partial answer to my own question: Fallows comes up in this forum as a person who advocated DT in a 2005 NYTimes article about “everything bucket” apps.

From a discussion on DEVONthink alternatives for Windows users.

    2. I work primarily on Windows, but I support my kids who primarily use Mac for their college education. I have used DT on Mac, IPOS, IOS for about a year. On Windows, I have been using Kinook’s UltraRecall (UR) for the past 15 years. It is both a knowledge outliner and document manager. Built on top of a sql lite database. You can use just life DT and way way more. Of course, there is no mobile companion for UR. The MS Windows echo system in this regard is at least 12 years behind.

Reference for UltraRecall (UR) being the most DEVONthink like Windows alternative. No mobile companion for UR. Look into this being paired with Obsidian

    1. Nothing.

Are we there yet? No, the wormhole broke and we are hopelessly lost in the slipways of time and space. Yes, but the space is not evenly distributed and we are waiting for the Sifting Machine to shake things out to a safe and solid level.

    1. There is a similar feature in the standard library Logger class, but the implementation here is safe to use with multiple processes writing to the same log file.
    1. But in all this incongruous abundance you'll certanly find the links to expect It's just what is wanted: the tool, which is traditionally used to communicate automatically with interactive programs. And as it always occurs, there is unfortunately a little fault in it: expect needs the programming language TCL to be present. Nevertheless if it doesn't discourage you to install and learn one more, though very powerful language, then you can stop your search, because expect and TCL with or without TK have everything and even more for you to write scripts.

    1. @adisos if reform-rails will not match, I suggest to use: https://github.com/orgsync/active_interaction I've switched to it after reform-rails as it was not fully detached from the activerecord, code is a bit hacky and complex to modify, and in overall reform not so flexible as active_interaction. It has multiple params as well: https://github.com/orgsync/active_interaction/blob/master/spec/active_interaction/modules/input_processor_spec.rb#L41

I'm not sure what he meant by:

fully detached from the activerecord I didn't think it was tied to ActiveRecord.

      But I definitely agree with:

code is a bit hacky and complex to modify

    1. Popper for Svelte with actions, no wrapper components or component bindings required! Other Popper libraries for Svelte (including the official @popperjs/svelte library) use a wrapper component that takes the required DOM elements as props. Not only does this require multiple bind:this, you also have to pollute your script tag with multiple DOM references. We can do better with Svelte actions!

    1. I think Svelte's approach where it replaces component instances with the component markup is vastly superior to Angular and the other frameworks. It gives the developer more control over what the DOM structure looks like at runtime—which means better performance and fewer CSS headaches, and also allows the developer to create very powerful recursive components.
    1. What if instead of public meetings—constrained by both time and space, where the optimal outcome is consensus and therefore “no” has more power than “yes”—we invested more in low cost, ongoing exercises that produce a high volume of information, persist even after particular projects are completed, make priorities transparent, and neither seek nor assume a singular position from “the community”?

I remember Chris Schmidt making a comment about how the online meetings for the Cambridge City Council suddenly had much higher attendance when the pandemic kicked in. But of course that means the meetings themselves got even longer.

    1. Local- using social media, technology, keeping it horizontal, keeping it simple and humble, celebration is important.
    2. We will have local, regional, national and then we see what happens. -Get infiramtion, weekly newsletters etc. Getting the stories together.
    3. a fantastic website- Vikalpsangam- in terms of what stories to share. In practical terms, just creating visibility for all these experiences and then linking themup. Website should be a useful start.
    4. There are all these different structures. Thirdly, we need to inter-pollinate, and share these experiences. We need the culture of dialogue. We need to learn how to communicate in different ways- to share patterns, dance, paint etc. Finally, I would like to call it a carnival, and not a confluence- including different worlds,
    5. One of the proposals would be togenerate more spaces for sharing knowledges. Eg providing virtual spaces, eg I have done this, what has and hasn ́t worked. I admire what you do in Unitierra, and the Zapatista, and my context is very different, so we need to change the way of looking atthings.

There is a thing which we call Federated Wiki, that challenges how we produce knowledge : http://federated.wiki/federated-wiki-introduction.html

    6. If we are so sick of war, we have to stop thinking of fighting against something. We cant fight the big system, but rather making visible all the small beautiful stuff, so that all the bad things would lose power. So observing our own pattern of seeing. The need for celebrating and sharing is so important. We can pass years without even knowing each other. So learning how to embrace diversities, and other ways of communicating

      Great thought.

    7. the social technologies- knowing how to organize and have effective meeting- from sociocracy and dragon dreaming, agile tools.

There is a lot to learn from, about Teixidora's meeting notes methodology, for example. http://peerproduction.net/editsuite/issues/issue-11-city/peer-reviewed-papers/the-case-of-teixidora-net-in-barcelona/

    8. so lets take advantages of the technology. And would gladly volunteer for something.

      Feel invited to join https://degrowth.net

    9. How is technology socially constructed, this is something I am interested about. What I would propose is that there are many experiences of people using things that aren~t meant to be used that way.

And what about using things that are built to be used in a certain way? Can we also learn from that?

    10. Fractal structure. Global eco-village network.
    11. To document this confluence, and in which way we are building this knowledge—not only logical, but emotional and relational. Putting much more the tools of knowledge building.
    12. The power we have is in the networks. We try to have influence in the policies.
    13. Horizons of people, beyond national boundaries. No more flags and national antempt. We can learn from these experiences?
    14. How do we connect grassroots organizations? How do we create connections, beyond the conferences. E.g. encounters
    15. We need to foster the sharing of imagination. Cross-pollination.
    16. Concern with urgency of the ecological crisis. How to get enough power to change the world?
    17. What kind of confluence?-Already existing alternatives, not theories

    1. 9.The idea to also focus on social media platforms and innovative use of various open source means of communication in determining the shape of the social movements was also raised.

We at ecobytes.net would suggest to participants of the GAC to reach out to their local librehoster and build up communication infrastructure together with their communities.

Also see https://framagit.org/librehosters/awesome-librehosters for an inspiration of hosters.

    2. 8.The process at the early stage could focus on facilitating the documentation and sharing of these initiatives across the world. This could mean formulating the narratives around the alternatives through stories. It could be an online platform at thestart.

This resembles very much to what we do over at transformaps / Intermapping. Also see

    1. Terpenoids have been found to be useful in the prevention and therapy of several diseases, including cancer, and also to have antimicrobial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiviral, anti-allergenic, antispasmodic, antihyperglycemic, antiinflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties[45-48]. In addition, terpenoids can be used as protective substances in storing agriculture products as they are known to have insecticidal properties[49].

Terpenoids are not only good for human uses but as an alternative for insecticide. just as a small at home example here is a link for homemade bug spray using plant essential oils. [http://wellnessmama.com/2565/homemade-bug-spray/]
