Whether it is - political polarization that pits authoritarian vs democratic ideologies or - climate change that pits traditional fossil fuel systems vs new renewable energy systems - the way we've always done things is in conflict with new ways of doing things through natural human evolutionary change - progress - In fact, we can look at the deep time, species-wide singularity that is now happening across all fields in the anthropocene as a predictable progress trap arising from progress itself

HOW TO IMPROVE TO MOTHER TONGUE LEARNING Begin literacy teaching in mother tongueA curriculum, rooted in the child’s known language, cultureand environment, with appropriate and locally-developedreading and curriculum materials, is crucial for earlylearning success. Using the home language in the early stagesof schooling in multilingual contexts supports child-centricpolicies. It starts with what is familiar and builds in newknowledge. It creates a smooth transition between home andschool; it stimulates interest and ensures greaterparticipation and engagement. This prepares children for theacquisition of literacy and encourages fluency andconfidence in both the mother tongue and, later, in otherlanguages, where this is necessary. Ensure availability of mother-tongue materialsChildren need to be engaged in and excited about readingand learning and this can only be done if the materials areones which they will understand and enjoy. In mostdeveloping countries, the only reading material children seeare school textbooks, which are often in very short supply.Other materials to support learning are hardly everavailable. Without access to good materials, children struggleto become literate and learn. In most low- and middle-income countries, the majority of primary schools have nolibrary, and books are luxuries which families cannot afford. For children from minority language communities, thesituation is even more dismal. Textbooks are rarely availablein local languages. Provide early childhood education in mother tongueLiteracy development starts early in life, and the homeenvironment is an important factor in children’s learningachievement. It helps build the knowledge and skills childrenneed for learning to read. Where parents and the communityare supporting literacy development, results show a markedimprovement. The earlier children are exposed to stories thebetter their reading is: reading for only 15 minutes a day canexpose children to one million written words in a year, thereby helping them to develop a rich vocabulary. Childrenwith access to materials at home are more likely to developfluency in reading

Adults do not perceive accessibility of reading materials in appropriate languages as a primary barrier to reading with children. Only 5% of adults who do not read with children said it wasbecause they did not have materials in the right languages (most said it was a lack of time). On the other hand, 79% of adults also report that they would read more with children if theycould access more materials in their preferred languages. This suggests that adults who are strongly motivated to read with children will do so, irrespective of materials access, but thatincreasing accessibility to reading materials in the right languages may increase the quality and amount of reading.71Figure 49

Conclusion: Supporting our hypotheses, we identify a general trend that social marginalization is associated with less system-justification. Those benefitting from the status quo (e.g., healthier, wealthier, less lonely) were more likely to hold system-justifying beliefs. However, some groups who are disadvantaged within the existing system reported higher system-justification—suggesting that system oppression may be a key moderator of the effect of social position on system justification.

summary
- Supporting their hypotheses, the authors identify a general trend that social marginalization is associated with less system-justification.
- Those benefitting from the status quo (e.g., healthier, wealthier, less lonely) were more likely to hold system-justifying beliefs.
- However, some groups who are disadvantaged within the existing system reported higher system-justification—suggesting that
- system oppression may be a key moderator of the effect of social position on system justification.
-
Question
- The question here is this:
- Can system justification theory be applied to explain why the majority of citizens, even though they are aware that the current fossil fuel energy system must be rapidly scaled down, there is no commensurate sense of emergency of concomitant action?
- The question here is this:

. It should be noted that stress can be seen as the inverse of “satisfaction” [22], and is relative to a contextual and non-stationary target.
- for: stress - satisfaction, lack project, poverty mentality, David Loy
- comment
- what is interesting is that there is strong emphasis on Buddhist and other contemplative teachings on acceptance of the present state and cessation of searching.
- In Buddhist teachings, desire is an expression of a dissatisfaction of some aspect of the present and drives change
- and last but perhaps most importantly, Buddhist teachings teach that the source of the desire is indicative of attachment to the constructed self narrative
- hence, at first read, it would seem the goal-oriented nature of the definition is at odds with Buddhist teachings.
- David Loy refers to desires as a way to fulfill something we feel is missing. He refers to this as a "Lack project"
- When we feel incomplete, we are motivated to strive towards those things that we perceive to make us feel more complete. This is also referred to in some branches of Buddhism as poverty mentality: https://jonudell.info/h/facet/?max=100&expanded=true&user=stopresetgo&exactTagSearch=true&any=poverty+mentality
- If we penetrate the self construct and see it's constructed, provisional nature, then we also expose the greater already existent reality that we already are.
- It seems paradoxical. While we are strongly reifying the self-construct, we will be goal-seeking and a priority goal may be to experience the self as a construct, which has the effect of ending root level goal seeking.
-
According to general Buddhist analysis, the individual that may be assumed to exist as a singular, enduring, and controlling self is mere appearance devoid of causal efficacy, and thus epiphenomenal [68]. In the case of a Bodhisattva, this understanding is carried forward so as to encompass a critique of the apparent foundations of cognition: object, agent, and action.
- for: emptiness, shunyata, non-existence of self, no-self, illusory self, deconstructing self
- comment
- this short description of the reasoning behind deconstructing the self is quite fresh and insightful, especially relating it to cognition.
-
Another feature of this vision that aligns well with Buddhist ideas is the lack of a permanent, unique, unitary Self [68]. The picture given by the evolutionary cell-biological perspective is one where a cognitive agent is seen as a self-reinforcing process (the homeostatic loop), not a thing [69,70,71].

I do want to point out one more really significant implication here which is how it affects our experience of time
- for: the lack project, sense of lack, the reality project, sense of self, sense of self and lack, poverty mentality, sense of time, living in the future, living in the present, human DOing, human BEing
- key insight
- we construct different types of experiences of time, depending on the degree of sense of lack we experience
- it means the difference between
- living in the present
- living in the future
- paraphrase
- it's the nature of lack projects insofar as we become preoccupied with them
- that they tend to be future oriented naturally
- I mean the whole idea of a lack project or a reality project is right here right now is not good enough
- because I feel this sense of inadequacy this sense of lack
- but in the future when I have what I think I need
- when I'm rich enough or
- when I'm famous enough or
- my body is perfect enough or whatever
- when I have all this then everything will be okay
- and what of course that does is that future orientation traps Us in linear time in a way that tends to devalue the way we experience the world and ourselves in the world right here and now
- it treats the now as a means to some better ends
- Now isn't good enough
- but when I have what I think I need everything is going to be just great
- So many of the spiritual Traditions taught
- especially the mystics and the Zen Masters
- they end up talking about what is sometimes called
- the Eternal now
- or the Eternal present - a different way of experiencing the now
- As long as the present is a means to some better end
- this future when I'm gonna be okay
- then the present is experienced as
- a series of Nows that fall away
- as we reach for that future
- but if we're not actually needing to get somewhere that's better in the future
- it's possible to experience the here and now
- as lacking nothing and myself in the here and now
- as lacking nothing
- it's possible to experience the present as something that doesn't arise and doesn't fall away
-
t the irony of course is that if this desire if this craving for money if this lack project and we could also call it reality project because another 00:13:08 way to talk about all this is to say that we don't feel real enough and we're looking for that which somehow will make us feel more real more complete more whole right 00:13:20 because whatever the lack project may be it is looking for out something outside that's going to secure this sense of self-insight the tragedy of the whole process of 00:13:32 course is that it doesn't matter how much money you earn it's never going to be enough because what we're dealing with is just a symptom and not the core problem

- key insight
- the lack project is at the root of our polycrisis
-
if you ask about things like lack projects or reality projects on the individual level you know I was talking 00:32:01 about how the separation is a delusion it's uncomfortable we become preoccupied with trying to find something out here that'll fill up our sense of lack and you know we can Wonder is there 00:32:13 something comparable at the civilizational level and frankly I think that there is I think that it is our Collective preoccupation with progress
- for: progress trap, sense of lack, the lack project, collective lack project, individual lack project
- key insight
- progress, and the shadow side, the progress trap
- is the collective lack project, that corresponds to the individual's lack project
-
there's 00:08:43 nothing there that could be secured and here's the important point I think we experienced that we experience it as a sense of lack 00:08:58 that is to say the sense that something is wrong with me something is missing something isn't quite right I'm not good enough and the reality is I think all of us to 00:09:14 some degree have some sense of that some sense of lack even though we might ignore it or cover it up there's there's some sense of that but because it's mostly sort of unconscious in the sense that we don't 00:09:29 really know where it comes from
- for: sense of lack, sense of self, sense of self and sense of lack, human condition, poverty mentality, alienation, separation, emptiness, emptiness of emptiness, W2W, inequality
- key insight
- sense of self is equivalent to
- sense of lack
- duality
- disconnection
- alienation
- separation
- solidification - the opposite of emptiness
- sense of self is equivalent to
- comment
- this sense of lack that is intrinsically associated with the sense of self is perhaps the deepest root of our unhappiness
- this is a key insight for sharing for both those who have too much (the 1%) as well as those who are so materially impoverished and deprived that they are forced to adopt survivalist strategies to stay alive, and if successful, take on a hard edge to survivalism, over-appreciating materialism
- the same mistake is committed on both end of the disparity spectrum, both groups are still under the illusion that that sense of lack can be filled

How bad are these scores? Very bad. If you know half the letters in the alphabet, we don’t call you “half literate.” We correctly call you illiterate.
Seems to be a lack of civility here and/or an appeal to emotion. In this section the author targets the audience and tries to make his point by invalidating intellectual ability.
-
The general pattern is that grown-ups have shockingly little academic knowledge. College graduates know about what you’d expect high school graduates to know; high school graduates know about what you’d expect dropouts to know; dropouts know next to nothing. This doesn’t mean that these students never knew more; it just means that only a tiny fraction of what they learn durably stays in their heads.
There seems to be a lack of civility throughout the argument, using many negatively charged words to imply that the public retains no knowledge.

until we have a full political understanding of the business and 00:27:11 importance of managing the climate crisis we're not going to get this and that understanding means we're actually all in this boat together it is true that the developing nations are likely 00:27:25 to suffer much more than the developed nations but nevertheless we are talking about a future for humanity that is looking very bleak if we draw a comparison with the 00:27:37 really poor management of this covet 19 pandemic i would say once again there the governments of the world did not understand that if they had acted quickly we could well have seen this 00:27:51 pandemic over in a few months and instead we saw the governments of the world all acting independently and really all over the place there's no real political understanding 00:28:03 and until we get that i think we're really not going to get the action that's needed

"Many North American music education programs exclude in vast numbers students who do not embody Euroamerican ideals. One way to begin making music education programs more socially just is to make them more inclusive. For that to happen, we need to develop programs that actively take the standpoint of the least advantaged, and work toward a common good that seeks to undermine hierarchies of advantage and disadvantage. And that, inturn, requires the ability to discuss race directly and meaningfully. Such discussions afford valuable opportunities to confront and evaluate the practical consequences of our actions as music educators. It is only through such conversations, Connell argues, that we come to understand “the real relationships and processes that generate advantage and disadvantage”(p. 125). Unfortunately, these are also conversations many white educators find uncomfortable and prefer to avoid."

What rural Ohio makes of Turkey-Syria crisis
This could be about really any town in the US. Except for some college towns and big cities, most Americans live in mostly remote places -- in an actual sense or in an intellectual sense. Let's read this warm-up article together. Please leave your actual name in the responses unless your ID is the school ID (for me, that would be Baekk).

Back at Wood’s home, his granddaughter hopes to own a house someday, likely a year after her baby is born. Wood says he and his wife would help her look for places and pitch in on the down payment if needed. Such family support might be the only way out of doubling up for many in Utah
Many are not able to afford a house without family support, that is if family support is an option.

Which experience? I feel like the previous two paragraphs introduced enough different concepts that the antecedents here is unclear.

The specter of upcoming departure influenced behavior in a way that removed one from reality — academics in Lyon mattered less at home, new friends would return to their countries of origin and communication would lapse, and why invest for comfort when somewhere so briefly?

Living twenty miles north of Austin or visiting twenty miles north? This is a confusing set of sentences. Unnecessarily truncated.

fluoride's apparent role in triggering early-onset brain diseases such as Alzheimer's
Vague wording again! (Also, "apparent" role; they're not even sure.)

Vague wording "major area of research"

One study shows that adding fluoride to water in the presence of even small amounts of aluminum
"One study" = vague (Without knowing details of study, this information has little merit/validity.) Also "small amount"; why not give a real amount?
-
fluoride greatly increases the overall toxic burden of this pervasive metal, rendering it exceptionally more toxic.
Vague wording that indicates many medical issues, but doesn't actually describe them or give information to combat issue.

What apparently happens when individuals with aluminum-induced neural degeneration are exposed to fluoride
Again, "apparently"; the author appears unfamiliar/unsure about the exact effect.

"The presence of fluoride enhanced the bio-availability of aluminum (Al) causing more aluminum to cross the blood-brain barrier and become deposited in the brain. The aluminum level in the brains of the fluoride-treated group was double that of the controls."
Above statements a summary/synthesis of this point, quoted from a study; demonstrates tactic of fake news in writing stories.

especially when that fluoride interacts with other toxic chemicals commonly found in municipal water supplies.
Not referencing or identifying toxic chemicals; also not discussing quantity in reference to toxicity.
-
The World Health Organization (WHO) explains in a report on aluminum that aluminum salts used as coagulants at many water treatment facilities can lead to increased concentrations of aluminum in finished water, which is worsened by the addition of fluoride chemicals.
I'm unable to find a position of the WHO at this time; link at the bottom of the page doesn't lead anywhere. (Could be another tactic, using a reputable site and putting words in their mouth.)

Now, you can see that this understanding cannot be used to overcome lack. It reveals unequivocally that it is impossible for there to be lack to overcome. Abide steadfastly in this understanding of Substance—as being that which constitutes Your Being Totally, infinitely, and unfailingly—from that Place where you are experiencing Being as Conscious Being. Joyously observe what unfolds.
It is impossible for there to be lack to overcome.

PAUL: Raj, I am failing miserably at demonstrating or seeing the omnipresence of my Being in terms of supply. It’s true that from day to day we have what we need, but it’s far from a comfortable way to live. All we’re getting are basics. The larger debts we owe are not being met. RAJ: Paul, I want you to be aware that you are beginning to give up your faith, trust, and belief in the validity of our conversations. This is indicated by the flip-flopping back and forth between knowing they are real and doubting they are real. I point out also that the doubting comes into play when you are challenged by opinions or circumstances. This certainly is a natural response, but it is not the consistent vantage point which you will find necessary if you’re going to be free from being dangled like a yo-yo or blown to and fro on the breeze of chance. PAUL: Well, if you are wanting me to develop some inner strength which will not yield, no matter what I’m confronted with—and if I’m supposed to do this while it’s my family’s lack that I’m faced with—then I don’t think you should be surprised! Theoretically, intellectually, I can grasp its value. But when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of life, it often seems like nonsense. RAJ: I understand, Paul. I want to refer you to what your Supply told you about how to set the Law in motion. I want you to begin doing this on a regular basis. A word to the wise: Be sure of what you are asking for, because you shall surely get it. PAUL: Alright, Raj. I shall forge forward. I will tell you this: It would be much easier if my family’s needs were being better met.
Paul's Trust in his conversations with Raj is challenged by his inability to meet his financial needs. He's doubting Raj because he is not seeing evidence (in terms of money) that what Raj is saying is true.
A consistent practice of Trust and Faith of what is known to be true, even if it has not yet been experienced, is necessary to be free of uncertainty.

Beloved friends, as we speak of these things, though, let not seriousness enter the mind. For in Truth, all we are really doing is describing for you what you need to do, and can do, in order to release the burden of illusion that seems to cause you to feel a heaviness upon your countenance, a sense of a lack of safety in the world. You could think of it as taking your rheostat and turning it up a bit by enlightening you, taking your burden of guilt and judgment from you.
