    1. ‘‘I think it lets us be more thoughtful and more deliberate about safety issues,’’ Altman says. ‘‘Part of our strategy is: Gradual change in the world is better than sudden change.’’

What are the long term effects of fast breaking changes and gradual changes for evolved entities?

    1. We know the information. But information is not changing our minds. Most people make decisions on the basis of feelings, including the most important decisions in life – what football team you support, who you marry, which house you live in. That is how we make choices.”  “Thought is at the basis of our feelings, and before we have ideas we have feelings that lead to those ideas. So how do we change minds? A change in feelings changes minds.”

!- "So how do we change minds? A change in feeling changes minds" : Comment - Brian Eno's comment is very well aligned with Deep Humanity praxis, which can be summed up as: The heart feels, the mind thinks, the body acts, an impact appears in our shared reality. - Also see the related story: - Storytelling will save the Earth: https://hyp.is/go?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wired.com%2Fstory%2Fenvironment-climate-change-storytelling%2F&group=world

    1. I assume that the goal of synchronizing timestamps is so that the primary record and its Version can be correlated by future reporting queries. I've always thought this is an odd feature, given that said correlation can be more reliably and performantly achieved by use of the foreign key (item_id). So, I'd like to suggest that we add an option to disable this feature. For the new option's name, I'll suggest synchronize_version_creation_timestamp. It would be true by default. has_paper_trail(synchronize_version_creation_timestamp: false) I'm open to disabling this feature by default, in a future major release, after a reasonable deprecation period.
    1. Our API v3 uses the terminology from the previous version of GetResponse. Campaigns and lists are the same resource under a different name. For now, please refer to lists as campaigns. Our API v4 will use the updated terminology.
    1. Before, you could send unlimited emails to your lists. This was a huge positive for MailChimp, and it attracted tens of thousands of new customers. Now, they have set limits in an attempt to force users to upgrade. It makes dollar and cents but doesn’t make common sense. It’s alienating a lot of users and hurting their reputation.

    1. As is common in the tradition of the zettelkasten, Goutor advises "that each note-card should contain only one item of information, whether a quotation, a summary, or anything else". (p28) He ascribes this requirement to his earlier need for clarity. (cross reference: https://hypothes.is/a/SfWFwENIEe2KfGMbR5n7Qg)

He indicates that while it may seem wasteful to have only one item on each card that the savings in time, efficiency in handling, classification, and retrieval will more than compensate for the small waste.

This sort of small local waste being compensated for by a larger global savings and efficiency can be seen in the design of the shipping container industry as discussed in Mark Levinson's The Box (Princeton University Press, 2008). Was this the exact sort of efficiency mentioned by Ahrens'? (Compare at https://hypothes.is/a/t4i32IXoEeyF2n9jQxu6BA)

IS IT BECAUSE IT CHANGES WHERE WE PUT EMPHASIS

A possible breakdown could be: Annotation collection using instance values (links also does this) Defining annotations to which multiple keywords contribute (this is new, see Need more details of annotation collection #530) Defining subschema and keyword processing results to include annotations Processing sequence for keywords that dynamically rely on the results of static keywords The actual definition of unevaluatedProperties An example of unevaluatedProperties

My guess is that common sense media is fine with 1/10th (or less) of the traffic they used to have, if the 1/10th is paying...Not gonna pay for something I use maybe once a month to check one category, it is disappointing though.

    1. ocio-cultural and lifestyle changes can accelerate climate change mitigation (medium26confidence). Among 60 identified actions that could change individual consumption, individual27mobility choices have the largest potential to reduce carbon footprints. Prioritizing car-free mobility by28walking and cycling and adoption of electric mobility could save 2 tCO2eq cap-1 yr-1. Other options with29high mitigation potential include reducing air travel, cooling setpoint adjustments, reduced appliance30use, shifts to public transit, and shifting consumption towards plant-based diets

The highest potential for demand side reduction among lifestyle change are: mobility, cooling setpoint adjustments, appliance usage, and diet.

    1. Only after aligning every single part of the delivery chain, frompackaging to delivery, from the design of the ships to the design ofthe harbours, was the full potential of the container unleashed.

Streamlining one's entire workflow from start to finish can unleash tremendous amounts of additional system-wide productivity. Starting out by tinkering with small things here and there is more likely to doom these smaller individual changes to failure with out associated global changes.

Once the overall system has been redesigned and reconfigured, then one can make and perfect smaller scale local changes.

Link this to the idea of kelp and sailing/rowing from The West Wing.

    2. Stack Overflow is full of old "not directly programming related" cryptography questions, that are highly upvoted. Those have to be closed/locked as well?

I took over a part of the business including this account. I am unable to change the name and URL of my Kickstarter account. I delivered and personally worked on each project that I did and I can't transfer all the followers, therefore, I am still launching new projects under this account.

So we will do that in our Pledge Manager, after the campaign. Yea, we know...this sucks and is against everything Kickstarter used to be about (the world now views KS as a store, not as a creative platform sending rewards to backers for helping bring the vision to life)

    1. much software requires continuous changes to meet new requirements and correct bugs, and re-engineering software each time a change is made is rarely practical.
    2. This creates what is essentially an evolution process for the program, causing it to depart from the original engineered design. As a consequence of this and a changing environment, assumptions made by the original designers may be invalidated, introducing bugs.
    1. In the last part of the 1960s, schools of librarianship, which generally developed from professional training programs (not academic disciplines) to university institutions during the second half of the 20th century, began to add the term "information science" to their names.

    1. While Trailblazer offers you abstraction layers for all aspects of Ruby On Rails, it does not missionize you. Wherever you want, you may fall back to the "Rails Way" with fat models, monolithic controllers, global helpers, etc. This is not a bad thing, but allows you to step-wise introduce Trailblazer's encapsulation in your app without having to rewrite it.

    1. Svelte right now has a lot of opportunities to have component state become out of sync with props.
    2. I'm suggesting this is a problem generally. Users will not think of being out of sync with props
    3. Svelte doesn't re-render, so you need to respond to component mount/dismount and prop changes separately as they are distinct concepts and never tied together, unlike in React.
    1. One of the primary tasks of engineers is to minimize complexity. JSX changes such a fundamental part (syntax and semantics of the language) that the complexity bubbles up to everything it touches. Pretty much every pipeline tool I've had to work with has become far more complex than necessary because of JSX. It affects AST parsers, it affects linters, it affects code coverage, it affects build systems. That tons and tons of additional code that I now need to wade through and mentally parse and ignore whenever I need to debug or want to contribute to a library that adds JSX support.
    1. Compounding the problem of iteration disguised as oscillation is the cost of change.
    2. Incurring high-cost changes isn't evolutionary design-it's oscillation caused by poor planning and requirements specification on a high cost-of-change component-it tips the anticipation/adaptation balance too far towards adaptation.

    1. If everyone did all of the above things, they would have the personal infrastructure in place to enable their lives to become zero-emissions. But the above changes only cover 45% of average American emissions—so what gives? The remaining 55% of emissions come indirectly from the goods, services, and food we buy. The only way we’ll get to a zero-carbon world is for each of those industries to adopt new technology and change their processes to be emissions-free, or be replaced with a zero-emissions alternative. That’s why your first action is voting to make sure that policies and incentives are put in place to accelerate the overall transition.

      The "above things" being:

      1. Vote for elected officials who prioritize smart climate policy; join climate action or political groups to support pro-climat candidates and non-profits.
      2. Use only electric vehicles. Your next car [and this right here is a measure of how very car-dependent Americans as a whole are] needs to be electric. [AND you also need to press your power companies and government for clean electricity; lots of electricity comes from coal!]
      3. Electrify your house. There's a reason California's no longer permitting gas in new construction. Induction has vastly improved!
      4. Switch to all-green electricity. See my note on #2.
    1. I think that we should be willing (taking the risk) to make bold changes, as long as they fit in the direction we see the community going in the long term (with Material-UI empowering it).

    1. GitLab is moving all development for both GitLab Community Edition and Enterprise Edition into a single codebase. The current gitlab-ce repository will become a read-only mirror, without any proprietary code. All development is moved to the current gitlab-ee repository, which we will rename to just gitlab in the coming weeks. As part of this migration, issues will be moved to the current gitlab-ee project.

    1. Stalking Cat has experienced behavioral changes in the vein of no longer drinkin' and druggin', heightened empathy, and reacting to certain things in different ways. By no longer denying these feelings, it's been easier to deal with different situations.

Reacts to things in a more "natural cat" way than anything else. Very cat-like in actions. (Lynx -> Tiger for e-mail address.)-> general feline affinity, but focus on tiger because it's the largest non-extinct cat on this continent.

Feline affinity is more great with big cats than smaller, domestic cats. (Primal nature? Bow hunting (Indian tradition) deer. Mutual respect with cats, 10' near bobcat, 25' near mountain lion, leaves when known hunting territory for another animal.) If you're not bow-hunting, and using a gun, you don't deserve that kill, basically. Gun hunting separates people from the experience of hunting. Stalking Cat is very much a cat in hunting & associated mannerisms.

    1. Sometimes plugins can conflict with a theme or with each other.  Disable all your plugins and see if the problem persists. If everything is working once the plugins were disabled it means there's a conflict with a plugin or maybe even a set of plugins. Enable the plugins one by one to identify the one that is creating the conflict.
    1. Right click on the /wp-content/plugins folder and rename it plugins.old. This will deactivate all of the plugins. In most cases, this will also lock the WordPress admin area as well.  You will still be able to perform these steps from within the File Manager.Reactivate the plugins folder by following the above instructions and renaming the folder plugins. This will allow you to reactivate each plugin individually to isolate the offending plugin and resolve the 500 Internal Server Error.  This should also allow access to the WordPress Dashboard again. From the WordPress Dashboard: Reactivate each plugin (one at a time) and refresh the website to see if the issue has been resolved.

    1. Our hope is that once a formal specification for these extensions is settled, this patchset can be used as a base to upstream the changes in the original project.

What does "can be used as a base to upstream the changes in the original project" mean here?

    1. HBOT was found to improve graft survival, complete healing of grafts, and lessen infection in patients with a graft. Patients with osteoradionecrosis showed improved bone changes.
    1. However, a recent pathological study found scarce interstitial mononuclear inflammatory infiltrates in heart tissue without substantial myocardial damage in a patient with COVID-19,13 suggesting that COVID-19 might not directly impair the heart.
    1. Vice versa, we did not observe viral particles in cardiac myocytes and, therefore, we cannot infer on viral cardiotropism. Cardiac myocytes showed non‐specific damage that was mainly characterized by focal myofibrillar lysis. In addition, we did not observe cytopathic endothelia and small intramural vessel inflammation or thrombosis. Other cases are needed to confirm this observation.
    2. Cardiac myocytes showed non‐specific features consisting of focal myofibrillar lysis, and lipid droplets. We did not observe viral particles in myocytes and endothelia. Small intramural vessels were free from vasculitis and thrombosis. EMB did not show significant myocyte hypertrophy or nuclear changes; interstitial fibrosis was minimal, focal, and mainly perivascular
    3. The pathologic study showed low‐grade interstitial and endocardial inflammation (Figure 1A and 1B). Large (>20 μm), vacuolated, CD68‐positive macrophages were seen with immune‐light microscopy (Figure 1C and 1D); they were ultrastructurally characterized by cytopathy, with membrane damage and cytoplasmic vacuoles (Figure 1E). The ultrastructural study demonstrated single or small groups of viral particles with the morphology (dense round viral envelope and electron‐dense spike‐like structures on their surface) and size (variable between 70 and 120 nm) of coronaviruses (Figure 2). COVID‐19 infected Vero cells were used as control. The viral particles were observed in cytopathic, structurally damaged interstitial cells that demonstrated loss of the cytoplasmic membrane integrity (Figure 3)

    1. Google Analytics Premium (later to be renamed Google Analytics 360)

Google Analytics Premium was a better name, because it is very clear what it is.

Google Analytics 360 sounds dumb to me. What does 360 have to do with anything?

Reminds me Xbox Live 360 (and, though an unrelated number, Office 365). Are they copying Microsoft?

Reminds me of YouTube Red. Where do they come up with this stuff?

    1. Not only are public transport datasets useful for benchmarking route planning systems, they are also highly useful for benchmarking geospatial [13, 14] and temporal [15, 16] RDF systems due to the intrinsic geospatial and temporal properties of public transport datasets. While synthetic dataset generators already exist in the geospatial and temporal domain [17, 18], no systems exist yet that focus on realism, and specifically look into the generation of public transport datasets. As such, the main topic that we address in this work, is solving the need for realistic public transport datasets with geospatial and temporal characteristics, so that they can be used to benchmark RDF data management and route planning systems. More specifically, we introduce a mimicking algorithm for generating realistic public transport data, which is the main contribution of this work.
