    1. From Italy they visited Germany and France. I, their eldest child, was born at Naples

In the 1818 edition Victor says that he was "by birth a Genevese," his only reference to his own birth. The implication there is that he was born in Geneva, but the 1831 edition instead places his birth in Naples. Soon afterward we learn that when his family discovered Elizabeth, her mother is Italian.

    2. Lake of Como

Como is a lake in the north of Italy's Lombardy region. Absent as a locale from the 1818 edition, the family's visit here in the 1831 provides the setting for Elizabeth's adoption as a peasant foundling.

    1. In South Tyrol, which belonged to neighboring Austria prior to the First World War and still feels strongly connected to German-speaking culture despite now being party of Italy, local parties have so far also failed to transform the widespread wish for independence into a powerful political movement.

hmmm author "fail" to mention that South Tyrol have a large control over tax money collected from that region

    1. This website is a very comprehensive resource about medieval pottery in Italy. It is rather difficult to navigate properly since part of the original navigation was implemented with some scripting method that is now obsolete, but all pages should be reachable by means of normal href links. It was updated until circa 2004.
