    1. reinforcing audio

      Audio(music and sounds) within a video presentation is a tool that can help you engage more with your audience, unfortunately it is a double edged sword. There are times when the audio can fail or be delayed, which can throw off the rhythm of your presentation as well as your confidence. Using audio for edited videos gives the user more control as they can edit the audio to their liking.

    2. I like to reinforce words being said with motion graphics, especially when someone is listing things in interviews

      This has a higher rate of capturing your audience's attention, especially during presentations (which most videos are). If your audience is not paying attention to what you're saying, they can always view it.

    1. Why do so many businesses share their data openly, for free? Most often, the answer is scale. As companies grow, the staff within those companies realize they have more ideas than they have the time and resources to develop them. It’s typically easier to work with other external companies that specialize in these ideas than build them in-house. By creating APIs, a company allows third-party developers to build applications that improve adoption and usage of its platform. That way, a business can build an ecosystem that becomes dependent on the data from their API, which often leads to additional revenue opportunities.

    1. protected static function resolveFacadeInstance($name)

      This page has a neat effect, first apparent with this example, where a blur effect is used on most of the text in the code block, except for lines 11–13 which are shown in sharp focus. (You can mouse over the code block to eliminate the blur effect.)

      .torchlight.has-focus-lines .line:not(.line-focus) {
              transition: filter 0.35s, opacity 0.35s;
              filter: blur(.095rem);
              opacity: .65;
      }

      Each line is dumped into a div and the line-focus class set on those which are supposed to be unblurred.

      (For ordinary code blocks without any blur/focus effect, the has-focus-class line is simply not used.)

    1. My UIs are data/store driven. The UI is just a way to visualize the data. Your data could flow through all of of the extensions and the extensions can make decisions (e.g. setting visible to false). Like middlewares in a Connect/Express/Polka app. And the UI doesn't even know about all this, it just updates with the current state and makes sure it's consistent.
    1. Discord’s bot ecosystem extends into crypto. In a recent piece on DAOs, The Generalist outlined a few integrations that have caught on with the web3 world. In particular, products like Collab.Land — which allows holders of unique tokens or NFTs to access private channels — have become essential. Other players in this subspace include Tip (accept crypto tips!) and Piggy (an RPG with crypto rewards).

      Discord integrates with web3. One example of this are channels that are only accessible for people holding a specific NFT.

By applying the role="presentation" attribute to a table, we can instruct the screen reader to skip over those elements and move straight into the content.

    1. We all know that real business logic does not belong in the presentation layer, but what about simple presentation-oriented things like coloring alternate rows in table or marking the selected option in a <select> dropdown? It seems equally wrong to ask the controller/business logic code to compute these down to simple booleans in order to reduce the logic in the presentation template. This route just lead to polluting the business layer code with presentation-oriented logic.

    1. Because it is so important to be seen as competent and productive members of society, people naturally attempt to present themselves to others in a positive light. We attempt to convince others that we are good and worthy people by appearing attractive, strong, intelligent, and likable and by saying positive things to others (Jones & Pittman, 1982; Schlenker, 2003). The tendency to present a positive self-image to others, with the goal of increasing our social status, is known as self-presentation, and it is a basic and natural part of everyday life.

      A short film captures how social interactions influence our complex relationships between self-presentation, self-esteem and self concept in a unique way.
